Well done and Congratulations!!
I've been thinking of doing the same, although I've started a 1000 calorie diet so my vape is probably the only think stopping me from raiding the fridge .

You say you feel better for it , what are the changes you noticed ? Better lung ?
I'm not sure if it's because I gave up vaping or if I started going to the gym at the same time but I feel fit and healthy and no clogged throat. My skin is way improved too, I think the vape maybe clogs your pores?

What have you got and what % nicotine are they? Still have yet to get some for the wife so I’ll see if she’s interested.
I've got a Innokin Cool Fire 4 vaporiser with K3 aspire tank. A kangertech Evod mega atomiser and tank. Around 30 -40 x 10 ml liguids, all strengths and flavours and some spare coils.

I agree with @Alee I think that is a little harsh. I'm not a weak person at all, most people who know me say I'm the strongest person they know. Most people on here don't know what I've been through and come out the other side. I gave up smoking a year ago and used vape to cope with the nicotine cravings, I never vaped in public and I really don't think people look down on you. I have plenty of self respect - I never thought I was weak for vaping. I'm just proud of myself. Full stop.

It may have been harsh and I did point out afterwards in another post that ex smokers do tend to be the most avid of the anti smoking brigade.

You've done well and see yourself as a strong person and that's to be highly commended.

I do stand by my point though that a good many people who don't smoke do actually view smokers negatively.

You say that you didn't vape in public but lots of people do and to see a grown man walking along sucking vigorously on a vape does, to my mind, look ridiculous.

To stop smoking but swop it for another chemical is just plain daft.

So whether they have a strong personality or not is beside the point.....it just gives off the impression of being weak willed.

But if someone doesn't care what other people think then there's no problem is there?

well that's good then because I'm proud of myself and don't give a shit what people think :)

does someone drinking make them weak too? Because personally I think alchohol is worse than smoking and can be far more destructive.
You may probably think to yourself " well cigarettes are worse , they are all pumped full of cyananide and Arsenic etc . So if someone just smoked cannabis ( all natural off the plant ) that would be better?

I don't think it is a matter of being weak willed it is a matter of choosing to stop smoking and having the strength to carry it through.

I tried to give up for years to no avail until I had to for a non smoking related illness.

Nicotine is an addiction and it takes a lot of will power to overcome it and fair play to anyone trying to give up.

If people choose to smoke, vape or whatever that is their choice and as long as it isn't affecting others around them, which I believe the smoking ban had sorted out, then let them get on with their lives.

Well that's a different discussion and anyway it's totally missing the point. I didn't say that smoking per se was weak. What I said was that someone trying to stop smoking but not being able to manage it and getting hooked on vaping was perceived as being weak.

I will concede that some people manage to stop smoking by vaping, and they eventually stop vaping too. Success story, well done.

My point was aimed at those who just swop smoking for vaping and never manage to kick that habit.

Nicotine is an addiction and it takes a lot of will power to overcome it.

Agreed to a certain point, however, thousands upon thousands of people stop smoking every year.
Why do some people manage it and others don't?

That's what I meant when I said that some people are weaker than others.

About the addiction, it's as much a psychological addiction as anything else.

I'm an ex smoker myself and as mentioned previously I stopped smoking by reading a book.
He explains why you think you want to smoke and about the power of the mind and how it makes you think you want a cigarette but the same power can also make you not want to smoke if you change your way of thinking.

The instructions are to keep smoking until the last page then stop.

i closed the last page and have never smoked since. No vaping, no Nicotine patches, no withdrawal symptoms.

My only regret is that I didn't read it years earlier.

In terms of the NHS I do believe that obesity is the biggest drain, then smoking, other things and excessive drinking somewhere further down the list.

However I totally get your point.
I've seen first hand how destructive it can be when someone drinks to excess. I've seen it tear a family apart. My family actually.

And yes, if someone is going to start a fight at midnight it's not usually the person who has smoked 12 fags but the person who has drunk 12 pints of lager.

But let's get back to the "weakness" issue, which in my mind is another way of saying "no willpower".

For example if two people opt to do dry January and one person sticks it out but the other caves in after a week then I'd say that one person is weaker, (or has less willpower) than the other.

I like a drink or two, (that's why we've built a pub at the bottom of the garden :)) and I' did dry January for 3 years running. I hated it, but I did it. I'm not doing it again.

I've decided instead to not drink in the week, only weekends. It's not going well.

I went to a friends house who said.
"I'm having a glass of wine, do you want one"

Me, "well as you know I'm trying not to drink on a school night, but, oh go on then"

She burst out laughing and said "You are SO weak"

Now then, and here's the thing.
I didn't go all uppity, or offended or defensive, because she was right.

I just said "too right sister, I'm weak, now get pouring and make it a large one"

So it seems that everyone has a weakness for something....

I'd agree with that totally.

But some people are more honest with themselves about whatever weakness they have.

And some would say that acknowledging a weakness, rather than getting defensive about it is a strength in itself.

Buts that's perhaps getting too deep.

And pointing out what you see as someone elses weakness (when we all have our own) can be seen as very condescending.

It's a discussion forum and I was discussing.

I appreciate that some people might perceive it as condescending, we do after all live in this new world where everyone is constantly offended if someone has a different opinion to their own, or who, heaven forbid, dares to voice a controversial opinion.

Isn't it better to discuss things and then afterwards agree to disagree? Isn't that the grown up way of doing things? Or are we all so immature on here that we can't cope with controversy?

Some people on this forum won't say what they think, they toe the party line for fear of being shouted down.

The reason that I feel that I can opine on the original topic of smoking is purely based on the fact that I was once a smoker myself.

I've been on the other side of it.

I know how people related to me as a smoker, the negativity. I was also weak for a while.

Out of interest are you a smoker @littleme

Isn't discussion a two way thing where you listen before judging people?

I am also an ex smoker but respect other people's choices and more importantly empathise with smokers doing their best to change.

Have you actually read everything that I said?

I wasn't judging people who smoke that are trying to change.

I was saying that people who stop smoking, but then swop the addiction of smoking for the addiction of another chemical (vaping, permanently,) is daft.
Because they're still addicted to the concept of smoking. So they haven't actually achieved anything really.

And anyway @Thehooperman it would be naive and dishonest to say that as a society we aren't always judging each other.

You only have to read the political threads on this forum to see how people judge others.

Yes I have read everything you've said, have you?

You started the "weakness" thing with ".... honestly to watch a grown man or woman smoking or vaping just gives of the impression of "I'm a weak person"".

Nothing to do with someone changing from smoking to vaping.

I'm not deliberately having a pop at you but the best way to help people give up is to encourage them and motivate them not criticise them for trying and call them weak.

Regardless there will always be ardent smokers and as I've said previously as long as they don't affect anyone near them it's their choice.
