Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I tried that. It was terrible. If you can wear contacts the latest idea is to have a short sighted one in one eye and long sighted in the other.

I would hold off going for varifocals for as long as you can because once your eyes are used to them you can't revert back.
If it's only close up things that you're struggling with I would suggest carrying a pair of reading glasses. Not ideal but it may be better until you eventually need varifocals.
That's what I have..... Also confusing if you squint at something thinking its the long distance one when it's not!If you can wear contacts the latest idea is to have a short sighted one in one eye and long sighted in the other.

For testing i recommend Boots, very through with the most up to date tech but the glasses prices are very highMy usual optician can't find an appointment til September when we are away so can anyone recommend a good optician for a test please? I'd usually wait or be more organised but my glasses have broken so it's somewhat urgent. By broken I mean the coating has crazed and gone all foggy on one lens which creates an unusual visual experience! Ta

The last time I went to Specsavers, the youngest paid £200 for 2 pairs, He'd asked what I wanted for my birthday and an eye test and new glasses was the answer. Neither have lasted.Specsavers we're good last week, although I've had to wait a whole week for my new glasses & contact lenses... Picking them up tomorrow, the Carer got a whole new pair that only cost £19.00 (spare pair for the car... Cheapskate)
I had 2 for £69.00 plus a contact lense test and new contactsThe last time I went to Specsavers, the youngest paid £200 for 2 pairs, He'd asked what I wanted for my birthday and an eye test and new glasses was the answer. Neither have lasted.
Once home, we went online to Select Specs, where I got 2 pairs of readers for £6 a pair. I'm still using one pair. Need to head back for an eye test asap.
The carer got his other ones online..... Also cost about £6.00I had 2 for £69.00 plus a contact lense test and new contacts
You learn to rub around them, instead of rubbing them directly.... I've been wearing them since I was 16....a looooong time....Don't think I could wear contacts, even though I can touch my eyes and that doesn't bother me. The thought of putting a thin bit of plastic there just makes me shudder. I also rub my eyes, a lot. Don't think it would be all that safe.
Picked mine up today, £69.00 for 2 pairs, no contact lenses though as I've managed to get conjunctivitis, again.... Quick visit to the pharmacy & I've some of that dreaded cream to put in my eye..... Lovely. My last two pairs of glasses (normal and for computer work) should have cost over £1000. Thankfully I didn't pay that but I did pay about half. Still loads of money.
