Talk to me about... smart meters.

Tek’s with Octopus, so a company run by actual human beings, thankfully.

The big guys are always a pain about direct debits.
The last lady I spoke to at Eon about the DD mess up was really good. She looked at my account since the smart meter was installed, checked the usage, and realised that the DD didn't need to change. It was good to get someone who actually realised the mess up with the reading last year was still affecting the estimated usage and subsequent payment.

She did tell me that normally they cannot reduce an increase in payments by more than 10% due to rules in place on debt management. She had to put a note onto my account detailing the mess up with the previous meter and reading otherwise I would have had to go further up the management structure.

Add:
Once the smart meter has been installed for 12 months in July, then the problems with the mess up reading should go away. Hopefully.

Son's just been informed his Shell Energy account for gas & electric has now been taken over by Octopus. (His Shell Broadband is still showing on the online Shell account though). He has a smart meter and pays DD , so assuming he just carries on letting them take payment and billing from smart readings like normal..

Yeah, just carry on. My mum found out they were moving her so I referred her to octopus quickly and we both got £50 despite the fact they'd have moved her anyway!

So, I've just burned the last bit of one €200 load of solar-dried firewood over a 134 day period, through a dismal winter - that's effectively just €1:50 per day and it keeps the Shed usable every day.

In fact, I still have some small bits left to start it tomorrow, but that's balanced out by a couple of lumps from the other new load - in case the cat comes back today.

I will give my source a ring in a while, when I know I'll be here and he can bring a new load when it suits him. That can be drying right through the summer, then.
