Email from TalkTalk just now - stating:-

We can now confirm that the following personal data were accessed:
• Less than 21,000 unique bank account numbers and sort codes.
• Less than 28,000 obscured credit and debit card details. As previously stated, the middle 6 digits had been removed and therefore are not usable for financial transactions e.g. 012345 xxxxxx 6789.
• Less than 15,000 dates of birth.
• Less than 1.2 million email addresses, names and phone numbers.

I'm not too sure what they mean by the word "unique" there.

TalkTalk seem keen to offer me things that I already have, or don't really want - and that would involve me making a 600 mile round trip involving a 60 mile sea crossing each way - I think I'll give it a miss....

This is probably based on the "SELECT DISTINCT" clause in SQL e.g.

select distinct(accountnumber, sortcode) from customerdetails;

Meaning: return only one occurence for each customer; distinct and unique
in this case having the same meaning.
