Swung by earlier to try the new venture in what was the Bankhouse - we each had a different burger (Beef, Chicken & Veggie) and a thumbs up for all of them - excellent selection of coffees etc and top notch service.

A wonderful venue for lunch in town.

Yes, funny you should mention that.

I had a BOGOF for the Bankhouse that was on the back of a parking ticket from March.

Was thinking I might use it next week, but I walked past today and saw that it was now Bean Encounter.

Is it the same inside?

Pretty much, but there's a shiny new coffee roaster in one part, but I think the building is listed, but the menu is worth checking out. I had the Beefburger and it was amazing.

I read something somewhere....(I read loads everyday, so can't remember ...) but anyway, The Bean Encounter was voted by (?) the best burger in the whole of Britain.

I just read this back and decided it wasn't very informative, but someone who eats burgers nationally really liked it.

Ate there on Saturday, had the Route 66 Burger. Hands down the best burger I've ever tasted. Fantastic sauce and onions, amazing bun, just fantastic.

Tried the potato salad as well. Not sold on the grapes being in it, but them to one side it was a phenomenal potato salad.

I'm a big fan of pickled gherkins as well, and with there being no chips available, I could have done with a nice stack of gherkins on the side of the plate.

Also had an excellent white peony tea, best I've had outside of a decent big city place.

Love it, can't wait to go back and try the sandwiches and rest of the menu.

Finally got round to trying the Route 66 burger today. Absolutely one of, if not the best, burgers I've ever had. My compliments to the chef :chef:.

The coffee's not bad either ;).

Tried this Saturday - iced coffees plus a Route 66 burger.

Wow - without doubt the best burger I have ever tasted. Full stop.

And they take Tastecard - 50% off food !

But don't believe me - try for yourself - We are totally converted.

If I remember correctly last time I looked into tastecards they work out really badly for the dining establishment - since they only get 50% of the bill - relaying on the fact that they'll get twice the amount of people it, but few do.

It works very well for big chains that can take the hit, but not so much for independents.

I know what you mean, but to be fair they shouldn't offer the service if they are not willing to take the hit. I remember discussing it with Narvana when they first opened, they quickly removed themselves from it.

The burgers here actually look very reasonable in price, would fancy the Taquitos myself but wondering how small they are?

EDIT: I should add though they'd need more than double the customers as the 50% they lose was all profit, I'd expect them to be cutting their actual profit margin by at least 75%. I'll still use the card to give those taquitos a go, but not sure I could justify it on the burger where they wont be making much to start with.
