The Belfry big disappointment

Rushed back from our weekend in Wales to meet a friend and his girlfriend for lunch at The Belfry yesterday, we only see him about once a year and he'd been playing golf there.
As a 'premier' golfing venue we expected something a bit special, a good sunday roast at least.
Found the menu consisted of pizzas & burgers. Took ages to get someone to take our order and whilst waiting for our food no less that three waitresses brought unordered food to our table by mistake. When we eventually got our food it was lukewarm and pretty tasteless 2 x pulled barbeque pork burgers & 2 x beefburgers. Had our friend not been enthusing so much about what a great hotel it was and what a great weekends golf he'd had I think we'd have been pushing to have the bill cancelled. As it was we decided to grin and bear it, defo not going back though.
£70.00 for one round of (soft) drinks 4 x mains & 2 x sweets.

Take it they're the group currently spending shedloads on upgrading the place then.

List time I was there was 2002 for a corporate xmas do. It was a nice venue with good fixtures and fittings. Noddy Holder was having a do in the adjacent room. From what I recall the decor was good and didn't really need upgrading I know they had either Rolex or Cartier branded wall clocks and many other branded names decorating the place.

Golf is a tough business these days though. World class courses like the Belfry and Wentworth are lovely but few people are willing to pay.
Do you really expect good service when you want 4 meals for £70 ? You would probably only get a couple of course at a Berni inn for that. If your going to visit a venue and be a tight arse then you have to consider you get what you pay for.

When I visit Brey or Ludlow for a meal I know it's going to cost me. But I also know that that the quality will match.

Think you're misinterpreting where I'm coming from here, we didn't want 4 meals for £70.00 we wanted decent food for 4 persons at whatever the going rate was going to be at a 'premier' venue. Whilst I appreciate that the core business at The Belfry is golf, not food I would have expected their clientele to demand something beyond pizzas, burgers & dodgy service. Had we wanted burgers we could have gone to the McDonalds just down the road at Bassets Pole and forked out £20.00 or whatever but, as I said, our friend was gushing about what a great weekend he'd had so we didn't want to p*ss on his bonfire so to speak.

Have no problems with paying for a good dining experience (it's about more than just the food), Mrs Trumpet and her friend have lunch at Ray White's twice a year on their birthdays and love it. Our favourite restaurant in the Cotswolds necessitates a hotel stay but we take that on the chin as we think it's worth it.
Just don't like paying over the odds for mediocrity.
