The brighter side of lockdown

Went for a wander over Doxey marshes this afternoon but the sun was just disappearing by the time I got there.

Still had a pleasant walk and not as boggy as I thought it would be.

I have never been to Doxey Marshes despite living here all my life. :/

It's a nice walk with a few different routes to take but probably nowhere long enough for the walks you're used to.

You also get a great view of the carbuncle that is the new rugby club.

It can get a little "busy" and some paths have limited social distancing opportunities but I didn't meet anyone on the paths I took today at around 13.00.

There were loads of people walking on the Isabel trail but there's plenty of space there to social distance.

I noted that the Snowdrops had decided it was worth making a bit more effort now.

I walked* into town and back to organise a bit more material for jobs.

* With no jacket.
I've not noticed our snowdrops this year yet, or the crocus that grow randomly in the grass..... I wonder if they've gone.

Lots of yellow crocus in the grass verge on Queensway though today.

For the first time in a long time I'm feeling real hope. It's been a crazy year, to call it an emotional roller-coaster would be an understatement.

Crappy, miserable, demanding, stressful, thankless job is finished. I invested too much of myself into an organisation that didn't deserve it - I will not be making that mistake again.

I am extremely thankful to have continued working through the past year and I'm looking forward to a new adventure. This year I'm investing in myself, new job is going well, I've reduced my hours, I'm adding to my professional qualifications and I'm taking time out for myself - I've been a bit naughty and I've been booking holidays, it's sheer desperate need for something to look forward to and I really hope I wont have to cancel, nothing fancy a lodge in Cumbria, a camping pod in Devon and a long weekend with the bestie.

I love my kids dearly but I've had no let up, hubby has worked through as normal, I've worked but from home, I was out of the house for 2 hours at the weekend, alone for the first time since before Christmas, I felt like I had been on holiday, We're ready for the schools to open again as soon as it's safe, I feel for every one trying to home school, most of the time it's crappy, miserable, demanding, stressful and thankless and thank god for David Attenborough, I've lost count of the number of times I've uttered the words, be quiet, put blue planet on and learn something when they've been bickering and I've made them go in separate rooms. I'm going to need to hire a math tutor this year as soon as I'm able but other than that I don't think there is lasting damage to their education, eldest is now determined she is going to be a marine biologist.

The daffodils are poking through and I've got some more to get in the ground they might not flower now until next year but it's worth a shot! Day off today and tomorrow, I'm going to try and spend it in the garden.

It was summer here today - well, it seemed like a summer evening all day - only 10 to 11C, but with bright Sun and only a slight breeze.

I nipped out for a bike ride - not my 'standard circuit' for two reasons -

1, I noticed that the hedge has been flailed last week, when taking the car out for a spin - I'll give it some time for any thorns to dissipate.

2, I'm trying to traverse every road within my allowed 5km radius - there is a very strange road which seems to have little 'purpose'. You can get to each end of it easier without going along it and there are no houses or farms, just a few field gates.

On the way there, I stopped at this nice little church.

When I got back, I mowed the grass, just in case...

Also had a walk this morning. First one in two months. Such a nice day I decided upon a policy of: 'F*** prostate glands and whatever they rode in on.'
Got a circuit of Tamar Lake in, about 3.2 miles in a little over an hour. Was glad to get back to the car though. Must do more.

One of my sub-projects is to cover every piece of road within my 5km radius - I am nearly there, there is just one section of about a mile long left to do after a spin out in the lovely weather today. There will still be some "spurs" which pass into (where) the Outside World (used to be), but I'm not attempting them, in case I fall off the edge.

Today's second-last section was a piece of road that I haven't been along since the 1970s - it involved a steep hill that I have no previous memory of, made worse by having to ascend it directly into the wind,

But I was rewarded by a view of this housing development - it'll be nice when it's finished.

Another sub-project is to record all the road crossings over the local river. This is now as complete as the current restrictions will allow.

There are still a few more to do, but outside the current available radius - one of those is rather odd for a road bridge in being a wooden structure, I believe that it still is, but I haven't been over it for a good few years now - we shall see - one day...
