Heard that The Crown may be re-opening at the week-end. Checked with my Enterprise Inns mole who confirms that a new account is in the process of being opened so something should be happening very soon.

Good to hear, lets hope who ever it is they can make a success of it and not close again after a short while.

As long as Enterprise Inns or the likes of Punch Taverns have control of pubs then there is a likelyhood of quick change tennancy as each new 'landlord' discovers the venture unworkable - I would suggest

Very true, I reckon Enterprise make more money out of their tenants than selling beer.

Not good to drink the delivery too soon
That was my thought, unless opening with just lager as a stopgap. Had a look on Friday evening but not open and I've been out of circulation over the week-end. Will prob have a nosey tonight.
Got to be better than it was with the last muppet.

Good opening night last night, nice to see some familiar faces again. Seems like a popular team judging by the number of people that turned up presumably from their other gaff. Loads cleaner than it was but with no real changes to the bar (good), the bog pan is now screwed to the floor in the gents and they have posh quilted bog roll!
Bonks's mild & bitter, Black Sheep, Abbot Ale and the usual lagers etc. Apparently looking to start doing food in the new year.

Plan is to create a traditional village pub and relaunch a small shop in January for essentials such as bread, milk, eggs and evening newspaper.

Two jolly nice chaps too it has to be said.
Mulled wine to be had shortly (as soon as I remember to take my jam pan in). Good fire again last night and the Banks's mild was on top form.
But then again The Railway's Bass was top dollar last night too.

i hail from near the malt shovel and i can honestly say it is one ofthe best pubs i know, along with the windmill in gentleshaw where the 'shovels gaffa learned the trade, i also whent to the same school as the new gaffers of the crown and i reckon that is a great team, with the right ideas, that can only do well. good look to them from the railway.

Sunday lunches started up a fortnight ago, so managed to get up there yesterday. Approx 60 covers, not bad for their third Sunday.
I had pork which was very succulent and Mrs Trumpet had beef which she reckoned was very nice too. Served with roasties, new & mashed pots, cabbage, carrots, beans, mashed swede and cauliflower cheese. Home made apple & mixed berry crumble & proper thick custard.
£7.95 for one course £9.95 for two courses can't fault it.

basil

don't mention the blinds
Mmmm cauliflower cheese now that is a big favourite of mine especially if it's slightly browned under the grill......
