Anyone know why this area was boxed off , couldn't they have just put a fence near the river ? Seems a shame tbh.

It was done a long time ago.

The steps were a legacy left after the demolition of the leisure centre.

The whole thing seemed rather small-minded.

It's very poor. That area should have been incorporated into the Riverside Development, sadly the whole the redevelopment was poorly thought out and designed. Hardly surprising with Sbc!

Just along from there the river is almost chocked solid with weed towards Asda just as you exit the dark - dirty pigeon walkway under the roadway that is strewn with litter (not much better going the other way)
God knows what goes on along there at night (all along from Asda to the Revolution bar) with beer cans / rubbish / urine etc, so just what are they spending our rates on ?

The council probably don’t want to make a feature of it in case it draws people away from the river in the park - more specifically next to the cafe where they make money.
