So a town full of curry houses, pizza places and sports bars ( giant telly ) gets a brand new.....?

Jamaican restaurant? Vegan restaurant? Moroccan restaurant? Lebanese restaurant?

How many flats?

I don’t know if this Facebook link will work but there are some photos of the interior of the old library which make it look possible that, perhaps, this beautiful old building really could have a future.

Yes I agree.
As long as they preserve the building then this is really beneficial for Stafford in several ways.

People are investing in Stafford which is hugely positive.

Town centres are changing and evolving.
Less shops, but more restaurants, bars, entertainment and town centre living.

Perhaps Stafford are ahead of the game and moving with the times?

I've heard it's going to be a barbers, tattooist and coffee shop complex where the retailers can all huddle together to attract the well groomed, inked caffeine addicts :)

But it was obsolete and no longer served its purpose and was an unnecessary drain on public funds.

You may not have directly seen any benefit but monies would have topped up the public/ county purse with cash that was previously not there. When you have experienced/ seen matters of social services / care that should provided by the council but the pot has run out due to government cuts, then later help becomes available due to movement of budget, availability of additional cash and underspend you will know where I am coming from, whether you agree that surplus bricks and mortar are more important than humans or not.

Regardless, it was sold and in a fit state, the private ownership has a responsibility that at least they have risen too

I really hope this comes off. It was a great old building. I did a fair bit of time in there doing OU work, the atmosphere was just right for studying.

I preferred it to home because I lived in Littleworth at the time and the sound of gunfire and screams of torment from the streets would make me abandon my studies and stagger off to the Prince or the Gate.

(Only joking rich Littleworth kids, if you come from up the Rec it's tradition to take the piss out of Littleworth.) :heyhey:

Right, so, walking past just now, I caught a bloke having a fag outside the Odeon and grilled him lightly about the progress. This resulted in him saying "Just go and have a look through the door".

So, I did, and was then offered a "No photographs" tour. (They have had grief about pictures of minor details that have been posted online, apparently).

They are retaining and replicating as much of the essential character of the building as is possible. There will be apartments upstairs, of various sizes.

I feel much more confident that this is a real attempt this time, they seem very competent people.

I did ask about timescale and was told that it would be nice to be open for Christmas... ;)

It is a great idea to transform an old listed building into a bar, restaurant and coffee house.

Its a pity someone didn't think to do it to the old post office.
Well, someone's taking another stab at the post house, so could be two new venue's open in time for Christmas.

Just hope there's enough custom about, the punters are spread very thinly as it is.

Perhaps the library business saw the Pizza Express financial numbers . Would be a shame to lose another town centre place . Fingers crossed it stays in the market square, always had good service there

Anyone know what is happening here. The Facebook page has vanished and the website is still showing 52 days to opening as it has been for months.
