Tbh, the post house needed hardly anything doing to it and that took the best part of a year, I remember them having Christmas trees up last Christmas !

The Facebook page that was set up a couple of years ago as a ‘coming soon’ for the Old Library Bar and Grill, has changed its name today to SOCO Childrenswear & Accessories.

No more detail posted yet but doesn’t bode well for the bar and grill plans

I love, love, love this. Finally, the old library is being brought back into use and it looks like it's going to be a lovely restaurant. Well done to the owner and thank you for saving a beautiful old building.

I sure the upstairs was going to be turned into flats, not sure if that's still the plan

It was, at least it was two years ago, when I had a little tour.

Right, so, walking past just now, I caught a bloke having a fag outside the Odeon and grilled him lightly about the progress. This resulted in him saying "Just go and have a look through the door".
So, I did, and was then offered a "No photographs" tour. (They have had grief about pictures of minor details that have been posted online, apparently).
They are retaining and replicating as much of the essential character of the building as is possible. There will be apartments upstairs, of various sizes.
I feel much more confident that this is a real attempt this time, they seem very competent people.
I did ask about timescale and was told that it would be nice to be open for Christmas... ;)

Not sure about this being a lovely restaurant - looks like it is a sports bar with a random eating offer (assume food quality will be pitched at a suitable level). Burger and chips whilst watching the footy! Unless I have got this wrong.

It all seems very strange to me, having been gone from Stafford for some 30 years plus. I remember being in there sweating cobs over the meaning of some of the equations the OU were shoving down my throat, seriously weird mind stretching jobs. I'd kind of draw some satisfaction going in there and munching on a New York hot dog, knowing all that stuff was behind me now.
(On another level, i'd be sad too.)

There's been a ‘coming soon’ or "Opening 2010" sign on the unit next to The Yard for over ten years.

That's how I read it. But if it keeps the old library from the wrecking ball then the very best of British to them.
It wouldn't fall to the wrecking ball nowadays. It was the 1960s when few older buildings were valued and not many were listed.

The building was in a sorry state, the roof was leaking, the person who bought it last time went to the fuse box and cut every single cable. Inside there was loads of mould, rising damp, you name it.

I’m asking myself if there’s any news on the ‘old’ Odeon as a music venue
