First - is the VIP Pre-Launch not tomorrow night fatfrog?
Second - a friend of mine works up at Enterprise (maintenance) on Beaconside, and told me that their staff X-mas party was booked at The Post House for Thursday night, and 60 people, however due to lack of interest by the staff at Enterprise it has been moved to The Swan instead, gotta be a kick in the teeth for opening night, losing a table of 60, or even 20 (how many were actually interested)....

So any feedback fatfrog? Was it any good?

Feedback from my contact who was there is as follows:

- the place looks very nice inside

- was surprised they didn't have any meals on display / to taste to promote the restaurant and get people coming back to eat... there were canapes though.

- when questioned about the high price of the food in the main restaurant, one of their senior member of staff (owner or manager, I forget which) stated "stafford people aren't our target market, its people from out of town"... this surprised my contact and me, very brave or very stupid, will people really drive to Stafford for a slap up meal... on a Friday or Saturday maybe, but what about in the week.... do they want the place busy or empty and "exclusive"?

- the people at the opening night all seemed to be from restaurants and bars in town i.e. Casa, Pastiche, The Swan etc.... why would they invite people from rival bars and restaurants to opening night, rather than targetting local white collar businesses on the tech park for example.... strange.....

My own observation - noticed on their facebook that they are charging £3 entry after 10pm.... is Thursday student night or something in town? I always expected it to be dead which surprises me that they can expect to charge to get in?!?!?

Uhm is anyone else a little affronted by this remark? If they don't really want Stafford people in their establishment then i politely suggest that they f off to where their target market live then!
I was considering going but now wild horses couldn't drag me.

The people that live where the restaurant is based are not the target? I wonder how the market research for that came about?
I read on a friends Facebook page that the New Year bash seems like a big one and may well attract people from out of town as they're paying God knows how much out for DJ Jim 'Shaft' Ryan. That makes me think the nightclub/bar part of the business may do OK if thats a taste of things to come.

Can I just add guys, please take my comments above with a pinch of salt... afterall it is second hand info (even if from a reliable source) and something could well have got lost in translation. I don't want to be seen to be knocking the place a day after it has opened, having not yet set foot in there myself....

If this place can be as good as it wants to be then it could be a valuable asset to the town. They have spent a hell of a lot of money so must know a bit of stuff about a bit of stuff.... i'm sure they will make it work and keep everyone happy....

Surely, freshly ground sea-salt?

From what I've managed to observe, all the work does seem to have been absolutely top-quality and I really hope that it all works. If it was my money, though, I would wonder about the paucity of reasonably adjacent parking.

Would you want a posh meal in a building full of clubbers?
From what I believe there is segregation in the building with the Post Office being the restaurant and the Job Centre being the function/club building. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong...

Worth a try it before we damn it?

This place has been open less than a week and the Forum is quite prominent on Google searches.

We can't keep decrying the town for poor uptake on new ventures and then dismissing them as soon as they open.

I'm quite excited. My post earlier in the thread was pretty much spot on about the restaurant. They are relying on people travelling from the surrounding area, but then without a car park and a night club attached, I do fear for them.

Anyway, I will try the restaurant as soon as I have a free night and stomach the cost of the A La Carte. I've eaten at a fair few starred places these days so have some experience to base the comparison on.

I suspect there has been something lost in translation and what they mean is; Stafford isn't their sole target market, and that the quality and standards should attract those willing to pay the premium, so dont be too disheartened.

Much like other fine dining establishments, people are willing to travel vast distances (think The Fat duck or River Cottage) for quality. If its successful, and the standards are up to scratch then it's good news for Stafford, bringing needed revenue to other businesses (hence the sense in inviting the 'competition') as well asThe Poste House.

good luck to them, I look forward to sampling all of what they have on offer.

I look forward to your review :)
It might not be till February now as January tends to be very quiet in top restaurants. I don't like being the only table! In fact, many actually close for re-furb/maintenance during January. Hopefully by Feb there will be a set menu though and I will try it out then.

Or I might pop in on Saturday night after 6 pints in the afternoon...
