Well i'll keep an open mind on this then and watch with interest what other topics on the forum that iknow.uk.com posts on....

Oh and i'm curious "iknow.uk.com"..... how on earth did you choose such a username if you don't mind me asking. And welcome to the forum also, don't think I said it earlier.

I'm a little disappointed about some posts on here- rubbishing a venue that is yet to get off its feet. Give the place time.

I'm going there for drinks this weekend, and I will report back. Hopefully I'll be going there on Christmas Eve too. A friend of mine visited the other day and told me be thought it was very good; not overly expensive (on par with The Swan), served premium lagers and had an excellent choice of Whiskeys (including Louis VIII at £75 for a single measure).

Like I've said previously, this kind of fine dinning establishment will not rely solely on local trade, it can't. That said they have 3 options to maximise potential; a bar, a bistro and a fine restaurant. Probably after Christmas, when the menu changes, I'll visit Pillar. Yes it's alot of money for me, but sometimes you just have to splash out n treat the other half!

To be fair, a) most of the negative reviews have been prefaced with "its early days for it yet" or similar comments, b) people are only giving honest feedback both good and bad - are you saying people should only post good reviews of places? and c) the people have given bad feedback are going off first hand experience, it seems you are commenting based on a friends experience and in the interests of supporting a local venue....

The very fact that its a new place should make them welcome negative (constructive) feedback to ensure that they go from "finding their feet" to "functioning excellently" as soon as possible.

I really hope the place does well, I just think if they're going to aim for the top end of the market everything has to be spot on. I've no problem paying the prices they charge so long as the product is deserving of it. As others have said any comments on here should be taken constructively if people involved with tph should read them.

Personally I will go and try the place out properly

As for Iknow.uk.com I really hope your not affiliated with tph, but with your first post reading like it does and your chosen username it's hard not to be suspicious. One of the good things about this forum is it gives people the chance to feedback on local business's. I feel it helps people know if they can trust that they will be treated as a customer should and if there is a chance a post isn't 100% truthfull I think it's only right to point it out. Again I really hope this isn't the case as it would reflect very badly on a new establishment we all want to succeed.

Yes we went expecting a fine dining experience which unfortunately for us did not happen. No member of us staff came near us as we waiting over 30 minutes for our lunchtime starter. There were no little extras that can make a meal. Nothing at all came with the lasagna or the risotto - not even a sprig of parsley!

However as a drinks only venue it is probably a lovely place to visit in the evenings. Can they survive on just this though?

I'm not sure it would be helpful to ponder on the basis for these responses - and I don't wish to stand accused of 'protesting too much' so I shall sadly leave it there...
For what it's worth (not much) i thought it was an entertaining and well written post.

And you are right, some people did seem to making their minds up about the place without actually going. Seeing as accusations are being bandied about, it is not impossible that some of the negative comments may have come from less than uninterested parties, who's to know? I think it may be worth keeping an open mind.

Having said that, i'm not exactly their target market - difference is i don't have a problem with that.
I agree wholeheartedly , but still remain suspicious of the poster :shifty:

I will go once they have had a chance to bed in and the festive madness is over. I think then we will get a better picture of what the normal standards and experience will be like.
I think it is great when anyone wants to invest so much in the town.
Is it an independent operator?

I would suspect it's due to the fact that it's christmas, but I was just out walking through town at 10pm and there seemed a much larger presence of people over normal 10pm on a Wednesday!

I've been to some excellent restaurants; one of the best being the Auberge du Lac. I'm very happy to pay good money for good food/atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to giving TPH a go or 3. As has been alluded to already, they have to find their feet.

Having worked in a brand new place I can fully appreciate that the training you get before opening night does not prepare you for being in the public gaze. This is even more of an issue when you're working somewhere like TPH. Publicity + expectation due to price &/or marketing literature = potential pitfalls.

When I started my business I was shit compared to how I am now...even though I'm no longer self-employed.

I can't wait to have the Hand-dived scallop starter (I'm hoping they provide the wetsuits..) and there are many other things on the menu which, if cooked properly and are good quality, I will happily devour.

Bring it on.

I trust you are referring to your age here ;)

Glad you enjoyed your visit to the Post House.

I'm looking forward to when they work out what will work in the centre of Stafford and what their target audience actually should be.

I do wish them all the best but fear they need to test the market before deciding their market and alienating customers from the start.

Hey Guys,

I went TPH last night, booked in my Christmas work do there there was 10 of us last night Friday the 16th December. The food was great, the service was great and so was the atmosphere. After we had our meals we moved into the cocktail lounge for a few cocktails, again great service and the drinks were great!

The plan was to go into RedBar after this but we decided on the night to just stay in the cocktail lounge, the whole place was rammed by about 10! Which added to the atmosphere of the night.

I'm sure there are kinks to be ironed out however our night was perfect. This is the 3rd time iv'e eaten here and have been thoroughly impressed!

Wish the TPH team all the best.

Well people are most certainly talking about it!
For a new company surely that can only be a good thing?
I do hope they havent hired a company to promote them via the forum, I would much prefer an honest chat with feedback rather than backhand promotion

I'm getting a bit suspicious now. Another new user, another glowing review. What makes me question this is that you have eaten 3 times already in an expensive place that has only recently opened...

We went in with about 20 people after a christening today for a quick drink before heading to another venue for some food. Venue looked lovely and for lunchtime was pretty busy too which was good.

We went through to the bar area and were treated very well by the staff. Seen a lot of moaning about drinks prices but £6.50ish for a pint of Peroni and a Red Wine seems fair enough to me for the type of venue it is. Food smelt great and I've got every intention of giving them a shot a full meal. :)

If they have then this will backfire badly.

A load of us were in there on Thursday night (15th) and I think all of us approved. Seems to be a bit of something for everybody - from fine dining through to clubbing in the old job centre! Even with a couple of lairy mates getting a bit loud the bounces/security stood back and avoided confrontation while making sure things were under control and not disturbing anybody else. A criticism I would have is the situation of the kitchens and the table layout near the bar. Staff have to push there way through a crowded area to get to the dining area when its busy and theres an unnecessary risk there.
If you've ever venture outside the town and dared to go elsewhere you'd know it isn't that expensive and theres many places like this elsewehere. The Post House gives the town some contrast and theres nowehere else like it rather than having just another chain pub/bar.
Its obvious it will settle down at some point and they may even introdcue a clear dress code so people know whether to appraoch the door or go elsewhere.

Whilst I can completely understand people's suspicions, let's give everyone the benefit of the doubt! I've done a bit of digging (remember, I can see more information on each user than you guys can :P ) and everything seems legit, so presumably these guys just had a genuinely lovely evening. :)

As others have said, all new ventures will have teething problems, so a few negative reviews to start with are to be expected, but so are a few glowing ones!

Best of luck to The Post House, regardless!

I popped in for a drink last night and the bar and the dancefloor area were rammed, and the atmosphere was good, the interior was high quality and it was actually quite pleasant. The age range was mixed which I thought was good.

The front part was emptyish where I got my first impressions was emptyish, I can't put my finger on it but the atmosphere in that bit is not quite right, it needs something to give it a cosy edge, and both times I've been there I've found the pastry counter 'in my face'.

The bouncers seemed quite chilled, when we walked past initially two girls were asking them what the place was, and they were smiling & nicely joking with them saying it's still the post office if you can still get a stamp. Which I thought was pleasant especially as they were standing outside in the freezing cold.
