Whalebone are playing at the Church Eaton Institute on 2 March. They sound as if they might be brilliant if you like that sort of thing.

Popped along last night and enjoyed it. The food was good quality, the game pie had by a couple of our party looked particuarly nice and was homemade. The locals were friendly too, which is always a bonus!

Sounds interesting. What other sorts of things were on the menu?

Everything on the website, there are 2 for £20 on steak and glasses of wine Tuesday to Friday. Specials included mixed grill and pork medallions, along with interesting burgers, one I noticed topped with black pudding and pepper sauce.

Historical figures is the theme of the scarecrow competition this year. I think I'll have to start making it before we even move.

The Royal Oak's lease has recently been taken on by Wood's Brewery, of Shropshire Lad fame. They've done an extensive refurb and the place looks really good. Food service to start imminently, they even have a pizza oven.

Is the Swan still open in Church Eaton?
Shut and converted into a house, I think.

I think it was converted into a house in the 80s; lots f houses built on the land behind, some of which side on to my land.

It is at a weekend, it previously opened at 4 in the week but I'm not sure if they're changing that once the chef starts.

I've heard today that Woods Brewery, who run the Royal Oak on behalf of the community group, have closed. If anyone hears anything about what is happening to the pub could they please let us know. I imagine that it will remain open with community group volunteers until they can find someone to take it over, that has happened in the past.

I will ask around. Woods rented it from the community group and kept the same manager in place, so I would imagine it will continue. Woods paid for the refurb too.
