Before the building is demolished a prior notification of demolition or planning application for the demolition of the building is required to be submitted. Nothing has been submitted to the council.

I suspect some demolition works are taking place but not to the building itself.

Was there prior notice given for the BRC?

I doubt they would have put up scaffolding if they were thinking of demolition. Also i think it's attached to the house next door, so could be tricky.

The demolition was in 1991, I think.

I've been informed by someone that those that demolished the BRC were fined / prosecuted. I assume that's because it was demolished without the required contents in place. I don't know....I was still in primary school in the early 90s.

I seem to remember it being done on a Sunday, as there were rumours that the office building was in the process of being 'listed'.

Meece House was demolished in an unauthorised manner a few years later - it was listed, I believe, though in a poor state by that point, and the fine was £3,000, plus £2,000 costs.

If the BRC event resulted in a similar penalty, then it was probably outweighed by the profit on the houses that were built on the site.

Who gives a shit?

Just because it's unusual doesn't make it in any way important. The weird portrait of Jimmy White on the fascia was probably worth more than the building itself. What, about the building, in particular, is worth saving?

Don't hold on to a mistake just because you took a long time making it.

Mr Hood had left it to rot. I seem to remember that went in a day, he didn't wait for night time!

Maybe all the people complaining that it should have been saved, should have chipped in and brought it from the owner? :?:

An interesting turn of events are unfolding.

Despite conflicting information it seems the building is being torn down illegally.

Apparently the council has been around to halt the works with immediate affect.

This is a comment on the save the sandonia Post...

An update on the Demoltion works. The owner does not have permission to take down the building and has not been in touch with the Borough Council. We have sent an officer out today (Monday) who has told them to halt all works. The owner says the building is unsafe and therefore we have a building inspector going out later to confirm if this is the case.
