I think you get what you pay for.

Ship Aground, Candid and Tap house are offering beer that you won't find in many other places and they sell beer from the small breweries, hence the higher prices. Having said that Candids larger is actually cheaper than some of the beer sold at some other pubs in Stafford.

I like Ship Aground but its not my favourite pub in Stafford. I'm more likely to be seen in the Sun, Rose & Crown or Candid because I prefer the decor / ambience of those places.

Snap on rose & crown, can get a good pint under a fiver too!

But with Small Brewers' Relief they pay much less tax and so surely it should be lower prices.
As for cheaper lager Stafford's four Dorbiere pubs - Joiners Arms, Kings Arms, Metropolitan Bar, Star and Garter - have the proper Dortmunder lager imported from Germany and it's stronger and somehow cheaper than the commonplace British lagers.
Is the Ship Aground still 'Card Only'?

Economies of scale don't apply. Beer brewed under licence in Burton by Molson Coors etc will be cheaper because they can get the grain and hops cheaper. The same reason Nestle can knock out a chocolate bar cheaper than some market stall seller.

Yes, there's swings and roundabouts.
Local microbrewed beer for local micropubs doesn't involve the cost of Molson Coors bringing Doom Bar all the way up here from Cornwall.

Am i losing my mind?

Don't the ^above two sentences essentially say that economies of scale don't apply, because economies of scale do apply?

It's too late for this kind of inception sh!t.

Hours that they are licensed to open are the maximum, they may not open for all the licensed hours

But I read that it was open only from 4pm on four days of the week, and then only to those paying by card.
A peculiar way to run a business as far as I'm concerned.
Candid only do a few days with similar hours, card only. seems to work for them
