Couldn't agree more with what jimbob is saying. Parker is the one chink of light in the Newcastle team. He has been amazing this season where carrick has been average when picked for man united. Downing has no pace at all and is nowhere near international class. I don't think mclaren is inspirational. I'd rather have venables on his own. He did a good enough job last time and only left coz of stuff outside of football.
Lampard cannot call himself world class if he can't perform on the international stage. Neville was hopeless on saturday too. Every time they attacked it was down the right side and he kept being pulled out of position and then not running back!

To be fair, and I'm not just saying this because I love Gary Neville like an older, gnome-like brother, if England played with a proper right winger that probably wouldn't be happening. I know Gerrard's played there for Liverpool blah blah blah, but the man is a central midfielder, and he's 10 times better than Lampard to boot.BBC said:

Stevie G is the best centre mid we've has since Bryan Robson. Coz he is such a good all round footballer england and liverpool play him out of position on the wing where he does ok but nowhere near as well as he would do playing in the centre of the park.
Mclaren is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea and at the end of the day it's his job to make sure the players are all singing from the same hymn sheet, to be fair. England are playing in fits and starts at the moment and something obviously needs to change, to be fair, obviously.
