Star and Garter on the Wolverhampton Road is re-opening this week with new management team of Ray Crowther and his partner Tracey. Please support this new venture by popping in and having a pint. Real beer still being sold, pool table and darts board available. Banners will be hung outside so keep an eye out as you drive past.

I hope 'banners' isn't a term for those who have previously been banned!

Yeah it's great to hear that somewhere is opening up when many others are closing. I shall do my best to go there for a sly jar in the near future.

Surely a banner would be a person who does the banning, rather than one who is banned, a bannee, perhaps. Then it would be a previous landlord who would be hung, or should it be hanged?

I kinda meant 'Banners - those on a ban', but I know what you mean. And yes....hanged!

Sorry I haven't replied to any of you, forgot to subscribe to my own topic! Yes they do plan on doing food but obviously can't currently compete with the Telegraph. The S&G opened on Friday lunch time, and serve real ale - Bombardier, IPA, and Old Peculiar - aswell as the usual lager and cider etc. They have darts board, games machine and pool table. Please do pop in on your way to the Telegraph, or indeed on your way back from it!

I honestly don't know about that. Have text Ray to find out but no reply so far. Will keep you posted if I get any feedback.

That's good to know, when I went in on Monday, early afternoon, neither of them were in, so we went on to Telford. Glad you had catch up, I'm not back in the Star until next week now, bus fare is too dear for every day from Stoke! (Skinflint!)

called in with three mates last night. Theakstons Old Peculier went down a treat. Seems like they could make a success of it again.

How do I edit this?
We're playing at The Star tomorrow evening so anyone who fancies coming down and supporting us/the place it'd be cool to see you. It's nice to have another music pub back in business long may it continue...

On a related musical note (Do You See What I Did There?), there's an open mike/jam session there every Sunday afternoon, 4-7. Bring a thing and play it.

I think Dorbiere have done well with all their Stafford pubs, the Metropolitan Bar, Kings Arms and Joiners Arms as well as the Star and Garter.
