Please be seated Fordites...for I come bearing good news. As of yesterday, our friendly landlord at the Railway now also has the Lamb opposite Props! :master:

Anyone who has been to the Lamb before will be aware that the food is good and cheap. Well, Tommy T looked in the kitchen last night and if you've ever eaten there you should get yourself thoroughly checked out by a doctor. Fortunately Mr Landlord's mum is gonna sort it all out, make it hygienic and get a nice, home-cooked menu on the blizzend. Food will probably be at least 2 weeks away.

There will be no Sky TV cos the rates are ridiculous, but hey...if you want footie go to the Railway.

Sofa was in negotiations last night regarding a fortnightly/monthly quiz (Quiz thread), and also the possibility of some live bands.

I'd like to thank Stafford Borough Council for providing a set of traffic lights between the Lamb and Props, ensuring that I and other Castletonians have a safe journey home when pissed. BBC was outraged that they buggered up Broadeye roundabout, making it much smaller and impractical, but if he'd known it was all for our safety when drunk i think he may have been more tolerant :)

See you there!

Oh man, my parents love going the lamb for a cheap n' cheerful fish n' chips/beef bap etc of a Saturday lunchtime. All for about 15p each.

In fact I went there for lunch on my birthday a few weeks back.

I hope them having a clean kitchen won't make the food more expensive. The current prices make it well worth a bout of cholera or two.

The reason they can sell food at such ridiculous prices is cos they get all the truckers from behind Sainsbury's stomping across to sink a few pints of ale, Faggots Peas and Mash and numerous Café Créme before returning to their cabs to nail a few rent boys. They spend an absolute fortune in there, drinking from 5 til 11, thus enabling the miserable trout who used to run it to offer ludicrously cheap fare.

The menu was incredibly extensive for a small-ish pub, so what Jamie intends to do is just offer a small selection of really good meals, made freshly on the premises. This should* mean that the prices will be kept pretty similar, and the quality will undoubtedly go up.

*don't hold me to this

Seriously though, The Lamb's a great pub. Although the food's always been cheap, it wasn't exactly haute cuisine, and I did kind of wonder about the state of the kitchens. If somebody gets in there and improves on the quality of the food without too drastic a hike in price it'll be fantastic.

Just hope it doesn't become too popular. I was planning on possibly becoming a regular when I move back to Stafford.

lol sounds like the Lamb should have got into the pimping business, (poo)pushed profits up further!

the only time i've ever been in there was when you took me in once, back in the good old days when we were both unemployed losers.. fortunately, the food was so good i didn't have space for a rent boy.. not even a small one..

Coolio. Loving the sound of cooked food a stone's throw from castletown. Still not happy about the crossing mind!

Right on schedule, they have started serving food at The Lamb again at pretty much the same prices as before, but as predicted it's all HOMEMADE!! Tommy T just had a Lasagna, £3.95, and it looked ace. They're serving til 7pm at the mo, but intend to make it later. I'm going there for my tea. Sorted.

I'm such a sad bastard when it comes to food, and i can probably remember most of the menu. Things that stuck in my mind are:

Double Burger £1.50. I asked whether it was just 2 crap burgers, and the answer was no. I suppose they're bound to say that.

A selection of fresh sarnies (cheese/ham/beef/chicken/salad etc) £1.75.

Bacon/Egg/Sausage sarnie £2.00 (i think).

Lasagna/Cottage Pie/Chicken Curry/Chilli/other things £3.95. Come with chips/rice etc.

There must have been a proper pie on the menu, but i can't remember one. Will have a word.

Puddings:

Apple/Rhubarb/Fruits of the Forest Crumble £1.00 (again, i think). Needless to say, i didn't need to read any further than this.
