Your electricity bill will now have a capital letter in a square just below your address. This is your Load Block, which if it is necessary to introduce power cuts this winter, will tell you when you will lose power under the Government's Variable Rota Disconnection Plan. Details are at Rota Plans Annex 2 shows when you would be likely to be cut off. At best power would be cut for 3 hours on 3 days of the week. The second to worst option would leave you with an electricity supply for 3 hours on 2 days of the week. Time to stock up on candles and disposable barbecues?

Disposable barbecues, or barbecues of a non-disposable form, are not an ideal cooking arrangement in the winter months.

CO poisoning is a common effect when they are used indoors, as people might be tempted to do.

Enjoying a drop of red.
155 refugees you mean. Never forget how lucky it is to be born somewhere you aren't likely to be persecuted.

4% of people who seek asylum get turned down, so 148 of those people are in desperate need.
Put the buggers up in the Vine and they'd soon want to go back home.

War torn Whateveristan would seem like paradise compared to that place. Even Dover would seem reasonably pleasant.

If anybody should be 'demonised' it's that murderous barbarian Putin. He's pretty much f***** an entire planet ... for what ? (just to say 'my dick is bigger than yours' ?)

If we do end up in a nuclear exchange, (and it is on the cards) there's only one consolation. A nuclear winter might slow down global warming a tad.

Sorry, rant over. But winter has set in over there, and conditions can only get worse.

(remember that correlation is not causation and that some scientific research is eminently suitable for an Ig-Nobel Award)

Researchers in Canada have published a paper in the American Journal of Medicine suggesting a correlation between a person's Covid Vaccination status and the probability of them being involved in a road accident. Looking at the records of 11 million people, 16% of whom had not had a Covid vaccination, they discovered that unvaccinated people were 72% more likely to have a road accident in which at least 1 person needed hospital treatment than vaccinated people. Only alcohol had a higher correlation rate. No suggestion that vaccination improves your driving skills but it proposes that opposition to government imposed health measures is likely to be a result of distrust in government, a belief in "freedom", faith in "natural protection or a misconception of everyday risks. All of these could lead people to "neglect basic road safety guidelines". Watch out for car insurance companies askig questions about your vaccination status

Even worse was a study by the Experimental Psychology Unit at UCL on 200 males between 18 & 74. They were given an online survey to complete which they were told was about their ability to remember facts while they were shopping. In each round they were shown a statement and a picture of a product then asked how much they would like to own it. Some of the statements were designed to lead participants to believe their penis was larger than average while others were lea to believe it was smaller. Participants who were led to believe their penis was smaller than average were more likely to rate sports cars as highly desirable, a trait being more marked in those over 30.

Yes, but then everybody who breathes air or drinks water ends up dead as well.

Interesting article in this weeks New Scientist about he collapse of civilisations. Provided suggestions on how to avert a crisis by boosting the well being of the majority of people and reducing conflicts between elites -
1. Progressive taxation reduces the creation of too many wealthy elites and the economic impoverishment of the rest
2. A universal right to vote and the election of public officials constrains arbitrary and selfish behaviour by rulers.
3. Labour-protecting institutions, such as unions, and a minimum wage decrease economic inequality
4. A welfare state equitably promotes the well-being of citizens
5. International co-operation through the United Nations and its agencies, such as the International Panel on Climate Change, helps address global challanges.

Thinking more, under the guise of point 2 we 'chose' to remove 1/3/4/5. It is the will of the people that our country sucks donkey balls.

Today I read that we now spend 8m a day on asylum hotels, because we don't have enough staff to process their forms anywhere near as fast as, well, literally the entire rest of the world. The average wage of an asylum caseworker is 30k, but lets call it 40 for the hell of it as it makes all the sums easier, that means for every day we house them we could pay for 200 new staff for a year. Each member of staff apparently clears 1 case a week on average, so that would mean roughly 10,000 more cases cleared in 1 year, for the cost of one days hotels. We spend on average £120/person/night on the hotels, but lets call it £100, so after 1 year we'll be spending £1m less per day on hotels. If we spent 1 weeks money we'd hardly need hotels ever again. Instead we just keep spending it on plaster, never fixing the hole.

If I was offered an investment where, after 1 year, I'd receive 12.5% of my initial investment back every single day from then on I'd jump at it!
