Today I saw...

Doesn't quite compare to Stafford's very own portal though does it?

There are three or four of these in the hoarding surrounding the college demolition/rebuild for some reason and it's nice they've made the letterbox one at the bottom for doggies and small children so that they don't miss the top attractions of Stafford.

I'm a bit stunned at seeing that. Surely that was only built a couple of years ago ....
The bit they’re knocking down was built in early 70’s (on Broad St/ Earl St). We used to look out of the “new” engineering block over the mud bath that it was to be built on. That would have been 71 or 72. The engineering block was demolished maybe 10 years ago.

That reminds me of the time I was studying at Leith Nautical College. (The old one, not the new one, which itself long ceased to be a 'nautical college.')

At the back of the college was Henry Robb's shipyard, So each term, as you struggled through the intricacies of a ship's radio station, you could watch a ship take shape, and then launch to make way for another.

I visited Leith a couple of years ago. The old college building is still there, it's now offices. The shipyard has long gone and a huge office block has been built in its place. I know I'm an old fart, but where the f*** has the engineering gone ? :(

... this rather exotic-looking, sub-tropical scene, through a small gap in a hedge, when i just happened to look in the right direction at the right moment.

Then, a couple of hundred yards on, I found this chap warming himself up on the tarmac.

An Oak Eggar, I think.

He seemed confident of his assessments of the traffic levels on what is a very quiet road. His speed of movement was (maybe) just about adequate to dodge to the side, if someone was to pass by.

"It's roining, whaaaaarr."

(Black country for: "There appears to be a degree of precipitation." Which has just started here. I'm practicing for a prospective visit in a fortnight or so.) :P

Now we've got thunder and lightning and very hard tropical style downpour. I've got all my aerials earthed down and await my punishment for putting up one finger to the sky. (Not that the big cheese wont get another finger when it moves away.) :P

Well this wasn’t today, but the other day. Husband spotted a splodge by the bottom of the front door.
We thought it was some moss that periodically comes off the roof.
So we went to brush it off.

Closer inspection revealed it to be a bat, so we left it.
We’ve lived here 20 years and have got used to bats flying around.

It’s been there for 4 days now so we think it might be dead, but it’s still clinging on to the brickwork.
So we don’t know what to do with it.

I would suggest a call to the Wildlife Trust in the morning - 01889 889 100.

If I was at home, I would pop down the road to see 'Batswoman', but I don't actually know her real name to search for a phone number.

You could also email them with the pictures? info@staffs-wildlife.org.uk

Awwww poor lil thing.

I know.

Usually bats that get left out in daylight get eaten by other predators which hasn’t happened.

Buts it’s still clinging on, we just thought that it would move in the dark but it’s still there.
