Today I saw...

Today I saw…..a disgraceful waste of tax payer money.

It’s been featured on the news a couple of times but the basic gist is - there has been a protest camp in the woods near where I live for about 18 months with the aim of protecting a patch of ancient woodland from the HS2 construction.

I’m not sure if the legal details but they got evicted form one camp and formed another about a mile down the road and it seems a week or so ago hundreds enforcement officers arrived in the middle of the night and started pulling people out of tents. Now apparently there’s people dug in tunnels under camp one and people up in trees in camp two.

Whether you agree with HS2 or agree with the protestors it is at this point what it is……..but now there are hundreds (no exaggeration) of masked NET officers lined up the perimeter of these camps doing little more than glaring at passing cars. I drive the long way round to get home because their thuggish attitudes and staring makes me feel really uncomfortable. I can’t understand why someone has signed off on an a staffing overkill to guard a handful of unarmed eco warriors and I cannot believe how it seems like a good idea to have hundreds of grown men being paid to stand and stare at passing cars 24/7 especially when work won’t start for another 3 years 🤷🏻‍♀️

I listened to a British Scandal podcast last week about the undercover cops who infiltrated eco camps. They seem to like them especially.

One of the groups this chap was an active member of found his manner so 'out of standard' that his nickname amongst the genuine members was Constable Stone, although they didn't actually realise the accuracy of that assessment.

Despite generally being much better disposed to fit into right-wing groups, they seem to make rather less effort in that direction...

They’re probably already members.

That the shelves in Wilkos are a bit depleted. Are they closing down or sumat?
Not sure if it's the time I shop but Lidl and Aldi both have huge gaps in their shelves all the time. Especially in the fruit and veg, but even in the tins/jars.

There have been massive stock problems through all supermarkets for the last few months.

I was in Stratton Medical Centre this morning for my gazzillion and oneth jab. (I'm not even sure what any of these jabs are for anymore .)
On the way back to the car I saw this. A road sign from yesteryear. almost hidden from view in terms of the road. How old do you reckon this sign is ? .... 50, 60 years ... or more ?

Nearer sixty than ninety years old.
Roads were numbered thus in the 1930s and that style of sign was replaced after the Warboys Committee of 1963.

That pole is actually an electric company pole which is quite common around here as most supplies come in overhead. It does however have a tangle of BT bits and bobs tacked onto it (I believe BT pay a rent to the Electric Co for the use) in a very haphazard manner.

I should add I'm not a telegraph pole nerd !!! but I climbed hundreds of poles during my time with BT. As I understand it they don't use ladders anymore, but cherry pickers fitted to vans. (Bloody pansies.) :heyhey:

Bob,
If I can't tell a telegraph pole from an electric company pole maybe I need to join the Telegraph Pole Appreciation Society !
BT not using ladders anymore might be for Health and Safety. I heard of one being stolen in Birmingham while the BT engineer was at the top of the pole.
