I bought my youngest sister a baseball bat, it hangs in her conservatory. She's never played the game in her life. But it will shatter a couple of kneecaps when needed.... a bloke walking down the road, carrying a fairly new-looking cricket bat.
Apart from the fact that the evenings haven't drawn out very far at this stage, you would have to go a long way from here to find a cricket ground.
He was headed towards a sports field that could serve as an impromptu cricket ground.I bought my youngest sister a baseball bat, it hangs in her conservatory. She's never played the game in her life. But it will shatter a couple of kneecaps when needed.

I got it for her when she broke up with the last knobheadwankstaindickhead. He'd threatened her more than once. I personally won't hesitate to use it on anyone.I always liked the joke told by the Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges - Sports Direct in Glasgow sells 1,000 baseball bats each year...... but not one bloody baseball!.
Noticed that earlier when I was out on a bike ride. Still booted over. Absolute toerags!.This evening I saw 3 youths, all wearing hoodies, so their faces were covered. They came out of North Castle Street, did a curcuit - Jerningham/North Castle again. Then they headed up the Doxey Road, on the way, 1 of the little darlings kicked over what I think is a BT box. There were wires and all sorts of stuff on show. Contacted the Police via Facebook and tried ringing 101. There was an approximate waiting of 20 minutes on the phone.
Anyhows, It's been reported, whoever it was on FB said they'd send a patrol to look at it.
It did enter my tiny little mind, that they might just be the barstewards that have been setting the fires in the empty houses round there. Now that is a very good reason to have a baseball bat close to hand.
a baseball bat
I was banned from playing hockey in senior school..........A hockey stick is a more effective weapon..
I made a rounders bat from Permali - densified wood - a remarkable material, veneers of beech, dried out and then vacuum-impregnated with phenolic resin, then compressed and cured to produce a remarkably dense and tough material - like a sort of semi-synthetic Lignum Vitae.I bought a baseball bat in Beaumont Texas decades ago. Then I was told I was paying off the ship there to line me up for another (new) ship at the end of my leave. I couldn't get the bat into any suitcase so I figured I'd carry it home. Having checked the luggage in at the airport I got as far as the gate and the guards there said I couldn't take it aboard the plane.
"Come on guys, I'm not going to hijack a plane with a baseball bat, " I said, which was clearly the wrong thing to say They went into 'Texas' mode, slight crouch, hands creeping toward holstered revolvers (remember it was the 70's.)
"Go and put it through as a luggage item," they told me, in a tone that suggested the debate was over. I returned to the check in and put it through as luggage, thinking I'll never see it again. Strangely, as we all waited around the Heathrow Carousel for our luggage, it was first thing to pop out, somewhat to the amusement of the crowd.
It now hangs in my front porch.

You would not want to get in the way of it.
