Today I saw...

Even though I didn't really feel up to it, I forced myself to take a walk by Tamar Lake this morning .... not that there's much of a lake left. I've never seen it this low in 30 plus years .....

That water course you can see is the mighty River Tamar just 40 or so miles upstream from where it comes out in Plymouth !!

Looking North along the Cornish side of the lake. The position I took this pix from is normally under water.

Don't think the geese are particularly impressed by the lack of water ......

Bats are OK. They eat bugs. :)
I love the bat's, as a smoker who used to smoke outside... We used to see big bat & little bat... I gave up 11 years ago.... Big bat has gone, but the Carer sometimes still sees little bat..... Lately there had been 3 little bats... And he tells me when they are about (he's still a stinky smoker) (and we go out to see them)... 3 little bats!

I had about twenty minutes of Swallows hurtling round the back garden - probably about twenty five of them, but it was impossible to count. They were doing a lot of the passes at about four or five feet up and a passage back to the house looked a risky business for me, but a few minutes observation revealed no collisions amongst the participants, so I set out cautiously. They passed me impressively close, but without actually touching me.

They circle round inside the Shed now and then, to try to get the odd fly that the Cellar Spiders haven't already got.

Having had to 'help' the odd one out of the Shed, I know just how solidly-built they are - being hit by one in full flow would not be a gentle affair.

On the plus side, they made a summer.

Took a walk up by Tamar Lake reservoir this morning to see how it's fairing. We were promised a bit or rain but it failed to materialize where I am. We're now officially in drought, hosepipe ban coming in next week, water pressure lowered.
As for the lake ?? .... it's getting close to empty.

We emptied our butts that fill from the garage into the pond and the greenhouse butts yesterday, because a storm would easily fill them again as it's such a big area. The latest forecast suggests no storm...

Only felt a tiny amount of spots of rain today for a few seconds. Didn't even see them . they dried up before becoming visible on the ground. The sun is back out again now.

The ponds have all dried up around here . On lots of our walks in the woods we're coming across little wooden bridges which must normally go over streams , but completely dry underneath and no streams in sight at the moment.

I'm convinced the weather is going hat bat barmy. This just happened here:

Bright sunshine, blue sky with cotton wool clouds, torrential rain all at the same time (it only lasted about two minutes, but I think the lawns are glad to see it.)

I have come to a decision. I shall no longer pray to the weather God. He/she is a wanker.

Arrived in Tenby to torrential rain & thunder that lasted about half an hour, then back to brilliant sunshine, despite my app saying its been raining all day.

I am completely surrounded now, but there hasn't been a single spot here yet.

If there was any rain around these parts it's missed dropping it on us so far. (Apart from a couple of spots lasting just seconds at 1pm)

According to the live weather for my location , it's supposed to be raining on my house right now , with thunderstorms passing through...... No sign of it even approaching yet.....

Praying for a real downpour to soak everywhere. Bit too scared of a careless slinging of a fag end in the neighbouring woodland sending it all up in flames! :hmm:

I'm not that far from you right now, dry as a bone here. Farmer across the way has a load of hay bales ready for wrapping, to be honest, it could do with staying dry till he's got them in.
