buy some shears, do your own hair for free. better still, get a mate to come over and cut it for you.
Top tip indeed. Over the last 8 years i've spent a grand total of £50 on 2 decent quality sets of clippers.

Other tips:

Instead of performing self-butchery when you have a splinter, put a piece of sellotape on the affected body part and gently pull it off in the opposite direction to which the splinter went in. Hey presto! This will obviously only work when said splinter is protruding from the skin.

When defrosting some goodness from the freezer, place it in COLD water, not HOT water. This will a) defrost your cottage pie/lasagne/apple crumble* faster** than if you do put it in hot water, b) hot water will start the cooking process, thus rendering the instructions useless, and c) hot water provides a perfect environment for nasty bacteria to breed.

White sauce (Béchamel). Instead of using the traditional method and making a roux (flour and butter) and adding milk, put all the ingredients straight into a pan and whisk constantly over a medium heat. Within a few minutes the mixture will become a delightful creamy consistency, without lumps, and you're ready to add parsley/cheese with a minimum of hassle! Works every time.

If you're sending a birthday card to a young child who cannot read yet, stick a photo of yourself inside it. The child whil instantly know who it is from.

This is a brilliant idea!

Stick a strip of fluorescent tape around the end of your torch. It will be easier to find if there is a power cut.

If there's no light to reflect off it, presumably it won't matter what colour or luminescent properties the tape possesses.

Only if you expose it to loads of light before the powercut so it glows in the dark. If it's anything like the glow-in-the-dark ET stickers you used to get with Cornflakes.
