O Jens, i was gunning for you - as combative as you were, one roundabout did for you - that's all it took.

When the right side of the roundabout -

- is the right side of the roundabout...
Yes, it rather surprised me that 2 riders took the short route and the other 9 (?) went round the long way. I guess after cycling 100+ km and with the tactics of the final sprint fast approaching, you've not got the luxury of thinking too much about the configuration of roundabouts. TBF, it probably wouldn't have mattered a whole lot ... but at the time, it was a bit of a surprise.

ETA It would have been interesting if Boasson Hagen had gone round the long way and the rest had taken the shorter route.

Anyway, thanks for the photos. For the wrong reasons, this was one of my favourites, possibly bettered by any photo of the two riders going over the handlebars in the Cavendish crash (assuming there are any - I've not seen any photos of this incident so far).

The Giro d'Italia was interesting today.

It set things up very nicely for what could be an exciting "final" stage tomorrow ....

ETA .... or maybe not.

The Giro has been as interesting as it has always been.

Even more so even.

I did consider starting a thread for it, but then i didn't.

The years of indifference have intervened.

It's not like the World of Cycling is free of controversy, but G is on course for his first Dauphine GC win.

Always a warm up for La Tour on the Team Sky rota.

Froome can't win the Tour this year but he can do a Valverde. Two GC contenders?

Or can he or won't he?

Check out Stage 17 - possibly the craziest day of racing ever. Grid positions and shizzazle from the off - Top Ten up front, peloton 'graded' by time behind, 65km only, but with two Cat1s and an HC finish.

Take the day off for that one if you can.

Thanks for the heads-up.

"To pep up the start riders are lined up as in a Formula 1 race. The starting grid features the top 10 on the first line, then the riders placed 11th to 20th on GC before the groups widen to twenty riders. The rest of the field leaves in groups of forty men. So, as the route goes uphill straight away, top 10 riders can put pressure on their rivals and fly up the climb. Some GC-riders will want to wait for their domestics, other perhaps won’t…"

Anyway, Wednesday 25th July is in the diary.
