Trade Unions.

As a teacher I never felt the need to join a trade union as I felt well protected and respected in my school.

However since my move to Scotland I am serious considering it (and already regret that I haven't)

I was assaulted by a student the week before Christmas and the school did jack shit about it.

Appalling - and for the first time ever I'm not looking forward to going back in the new year.

I look back on my earlier comments on this thread with disdain. I ended up in a situation where several friends needed union help, I ended up becoming not a union rep but a sort of stand in for some meetings with HR, where basically a mentally unstable member of Upper management decided to walk all over our contracts. We won, and it was kinda fun doing so, but feck me if the union hadn't stepped in to help a few would have been shafted. I personally sorted my own problems, the union were helpful but I think I could have fought it alone, many were not so lucky.

I'm in a union and had occasion to use it after being pressured to lie as to what training/experiance I'd had in a work enviroment , that could have put lots of other people at risk.

Thumbs up for unions for me.
