Trangia Stove.

Does anybody have a Trangia stove?

If so, then I would be interested to hear details of the lemon-shaped hole in the side that is used to pass the gas pipe through when using the gas burner option. I have now obtained a gas burner for mine, but the stove is so old that it pre-dates the gas option and does not have this hole - it's not the end of the world, as the pipe can just go under the stove edge, but I might get round to putting the hole in one day.

I might just sneak into Millets and trace round one in the shop....

I've got one somewhere - don't remember it having such an 'ole so it might be as old as yours. I'll try and find it and report back.

Ah - trace round it and keep it about your person? - I shall attend the cycle event around the town tomorrow....?

The hole has been there since the mid '80s, I think, when the gas burner option first became available - mine is rather earlier.

"Manual? Nobody needs that."

..but, you do need to keep your cold water in a vacuum flask at -15°C..

OK, having scored with my first question, I have another one.

The Trangia gas burner has a short, threaded extension on the bottom of the brass body, that appears to have no purpose ( that I can see) - any ideas?

It functions in the cook-set without any input from this part of the design, as far as I can see......

I have asked Trangia, but they're all on holiday for a while.

Right, I've just taken a scalpel to Withnail's hole, so that I can open it up and check that the bulbous end of my pipe is capable of being inserted without too much difficulty. All has proceeded well, so far. I just need to decide what to do with my own hole now. I'm going to scratch it in various locations before I commit myself and open it up properly.

That sounds so wrong!

OK. My bottom is a bit older than Withnail's and it has perforations all across one side, whereas his has a big hole, a bit off to one side. I decided that it would be best to use a jigsaw on mine and create a more adequate hole out of the existing ones. I've done this with some success and the bulbous end of my pipe has been successfully inserted into my own hole. Pictures to follow at some point.

I marked out possible incisions to transfer Withnail's hole to my bottom.

I found it difficult to get my full-size tool to penetrate successfully and, so, I used a smaller, low-voltage, appliance. This left the edges a bit jagged, but I gave them a really good rub afterwards.

And here we are with my pipe inserted into Withnail's hole.

I hope to be eating from it shortly, as soon as I can produce some suitable gas.

You'd think i might remember some of the things my hole has gone through - mind you, i thought that drink tasted a bit 'funny'.

At least i know why sitting down hurts so much.

One can only assume it is designed to screw into a gas cylinder that has its own regulator-sort-of-thing. Such a thing would shurely raise the base above ground level and make things a lot more complicated, not to say dangerous. After that, i'm out of ideas.

In other trangia related news i have returned from a mini-expedition in which such a gas burner conversion whatsit was used for the first time. It is a betterer state of affairs all round on the 'usage' front - not so much on the 'not carrying pressurised gas canisters around' front.

I'm led to believe that the 'wankers on the street' have spoiled the whole 'not carrying pressurised gas canisters around' scene for the rest of us.
