Trouble at Stafford College?

Nah, the MIS and exams team (which I'm part of) find out tomorrow. A few have already took voluntary redundancy, if offered the same job with a pay cut as others have been I shall do the same. There are further ones to come, less than 20% of the support staff with posts at risk have had their areas targeted yet. I think the teaching staff already have, pretty sure they were finding out this week.

We've just offered a job to an escapee from the college. Guess he jumped before the axe fell. Lucky for him :)

It seems to have moved up a notch - heard staff walked out this afternoon demanding the principal is sacked. Uncertain times ahead?

Hope everything ok with you @tek-monkey ?

They want a meeting to discuss my options. I've been ill the last 2 days otherwise this may have already been resolved, instead it has to wait til next week. I shall be leaving this conversation until said meeting takes place, but there is enough out there on the local news for you to work out what is happening yourselves. I am proud of my colleagues and gutted I couldn't be with them today, and I don't want anything detrimental I say about the way things are run to detract from the fact that the people your kids actually see day to day are doing the absolute best they can for them in very difficult times. If people take the current negativity as applying to the college as a whole we will lose yet another vital resource for this town, I'm pretty sure most people here would hate to be judged on the quality of their bosses?

I know a fair few people who work at the college in some capacity or other, so have heard over the last couple of years how things have gone downhill rapidly from ALL of their perspectives. Stafford College used to have a good reputation...big shame, and complete travesty.

This deserves its own thread.
I understand that there is now a new Chair of governors - Cllr Winnington! What does he know about education.

His role is to appoint people who do know about education and thus ensure smooth running and to pursue funding opportunities for the College.

Can only comment from the inside, as it were, but much better someone that wants to hear what's wrong than someone that refuses to. He's also promised to go back to the previous style of governance where each area is specifically designated to a governor to oversea, rather than all governors knowing a little of each but all of none.

Dunno about the rest of the staff but I see it as a step in the right direction. I know nothing about his education background but he appears to be able to manage/plan, something we direly need. With the vp now taking charge the mood is positive for the first time this year, but obviously time will tell.

Quiet I should thiink as it's the holidays, so the only people there will be a few of the techies whose turn it is not to go on holiday yet.

She is officially due back on August 10th, but everyone is acting like she's gone for good. The mood is much better, but if she comes back I'd expect more protests etc.

The place is fairly quiet at the min, which is good cos us techies have a lot to do before the teachers and students reappear!

I was enormously proud to work there for a long time, alongside some of the finest people I know - talented, dedicated, tireless colleagues. I loved the College and I was passionate about my job in a way that went beyond anything else I've done.

Then I became very unhappy.

So I left.
