If it’s red you’ve probably been eating beetroot
And to really panic the nurse, eat asparagus as well

Shower at 25% seems to depend on age group. Water company etc recommendations is for 5 minutes in the shower, average time for over 45s is 7 min, average time for 17-25 year olds is 16-20 mins in the shower. So much for the young being environmentally friendly.

I won't tell you how long it takes me at 58yrs old then. Obviously without the busted knee, ribs and sore boob.
It's 10 minutes to wash my hair!

Came back from a walk to find the road flooded , following the stream it lead to our water thingy.

Been trying to cut back on water usage as they said the first fortnights useage in our house , from previous occupants reading when he left to their reading for the bill , was really excessive. Must have had a slow leak all that time! Now we have a fountain water feature on the pavement.

Just looked at BBC teletext (or whatever it's called now) . Water companies pleading with people to save water. Yet when we had the massive burst on tuesday night and millions of gallons gushing down several nearby roads, everyone reporting it was being told it was going to be at least 3 days. After our 3rd call as just us had no water supply in the house, were told "Oh, not been logged you actually have no water, Much as we hate wasting water it would normally have been 3 days for us to come out, as water running down the road isn't an emergency, but you are now being prioritised.with no supply " Still took them 5 + hours and only pushed up the list then because they found out we had a pensioner (me) living here.

Praying for rain soon now. With a nearby golf course devastateed going up in flames last week and the nearby homes ready to evacuate with belongings and insurance documents at the ready at the time , along with a couple of other places in the area being scorched to the ground , got a supply of meds to grab if we have to make an emergency evacuation.

Car is parked right over by the front lawn , with a double width driveway and corner lawn the width of 2 cars up to our fence by the woods. But then got the wooded area the other side of the fence. Just hoping any idiots walking through the woods don't discard fag ends and set the whole lot up...:hmm:

The privatised water companies have been handing out dividends for thirty years, and largely ignoring the real problems.

Maybe, if the CEO got a thousand pound fine for every leak there might be a response, but that won't happen, obviously.

Conversely, I wonder how many urban trees actually rely on the leaks?

A house where I used to cut the grass had an obvious leak around the meter, but it wasn't clear what side it was - Severn Trent just denied it was leaking, but it obviously was*. They were away for a month and it didn't register anything on the meter in that time, so it was probably on ST's side. I suspect that it still leaks there.

Another house had a persistent puddle, but it was still there after a really dry spell, so I dug around it and found it was leaking both sides of the connection. One side I just tightened up, as it was loose, but the other side had the connection disabled by the concrete dribbled over it, so I left that for them - even though the water was jetting up into the air, I just didn't feel 'safe' in tackling it, in case it just came apart when I chipped the concrete away, and I had no means to turn the supply off then - they turned up a few days later and tightened it up.

* I've just had a look at the July 2022 Street View and you can still see the verdant patch around the meter now.

Found out the bengal kitten down our road is scared of water, when our burst turned the road into a fast flowing stream and she darent cross it to get back to her house . The birds were having a great time splashing about in it, they seemed to realise the normally ' hunter' cat couldn't reach them.
The girl & her mates next door were so excited dancing around in it " It's like Droitwich Lido!"
I wasn't so amused with it being our burst , and us the only ones with no water in the house.
One thing that's come of it though, since they found out I'm 66.....got an email from ST since , saying any further supply problems we'll get free water delivered to us.

The current water supply/sewage disposal issues having been completely unpredictable, apparently, we can expect urgent government action at some point in the distant future, when some other avoidable catastrophe has knocked it into the background.

I understand that there are many motions in the pipeline already.

Isn't "Bath 8% Shower 25%" meaningless without knowing what proportion of residents take baths and take showers ?
If just over three times more people take showers than baths then both methods of cleansing oneself use about the same amount of water, not that I'm suggesting that those proportions are correct.

It's probably all made up bullshit, just like 97.3% of all statistics.
