Wet Battery?

Ordered a new battery for my laptop from overseas which arrived wet, the package had been wet and opened and water had got inside the anti-static bag and around the battery. It's drying off but would it be OK to use after this, am I likely to short out the laptop or even worse electrocute myself?

I think it's better to be safe than sorry, get on to the supplier and tell them about the state of the packaging and ask for another battery.

It was sent in a box that was folded and not taped at the ends, so the packaging was definately not up to the job, if it had been taped, it may have offered extra protection and prevented it from getting wet. The battery is however a sealed unit which leads me to think it may be OK but I am hesitant to try it.

Most of the suppliers in HK / China etc. are usually very good. If it's an eBay transaction, they are usually so petrified at the thought of negative feedback they are quick to provide a remedy.

Having said that, does the battery itself look damaged in any way? If not, then it's still a sealed battery pack and theoretically water should not have got inside it. Dry it out thoroughly and you'll probably find it will work fine.

A battery can short itself out and cause damage to the battery, but even if it was shorting this should cause no damage to the laptop by giving it a try.

BE SURE that you are dealing with a water damaged package though, and not a fractured battery pack leaking acid!

Cheers, WMR, it was def. water, looks like the package had been left out in the rain and the battery had fallen out as a result of the cardboard weakening at one end and also got wet. Battery looks OK, I've emailed the seller and I'll see what he comes back with. Bloody postman, it said signed for but was pushed through the door!

Posties seem to now assume they are OK to sign for our recorded deliveries themselves. I've had this while living in Stone, and also now living back in Stafford. It kind of defeats the point in an item being recorded if you ask me!
