I can't remember reading the book & thought I had read everything SK (+alias's had written) good watching though.... Were having a bit of a King fest right now....Really enjoyed that, much more so than the book, though I think (no real spoiler here) that the movie suffers a little from the Overlook Hotel still standing in the cinematic universe (it is destroyed at the end of the book of The Shining). The last act lets it down a bit but overall very good!
Have you tried the series "Castle Rock" that's based on King's worlds/lesser known characters? First series is pretty good but you can tell the network told them to get some better-known characters in so the second season (which is based around Annie Wilkes and is a 'Misery' prequel) is less good.I can't remember reading the book & thought I had read everything SK (+alias's had written) good watching though.... Speaking of Stephen King, I'm off to watch the latest adaptation at the cinema today, Firestarter. Haven't read the book.
Speaking as someone who has read everything Stephen King has sold in book form, in this country, even when he writes/wrote as Richard Bachman. The books are fantastic, but don't go over to the film very well.Bit of a meh movie to be honest. Performances were all good but it was a bit one-dimensional and predictable. Did seem to fly by though.
What about The Green Mile, The Shining, and the Shawshank redemption?? All brilliant films in my book, but yes, some are dismal.....Speaking as someone who has read everything Stephen King has sold in book form, in this country, even when he writes/wrote as Richard Bachman. For my money, there has only ever been IT, Misery and Carrie that have compared to the books equally.
There was something about the Shining that didn't quite come across on the film, not sure what. I suppose it's how your mind interprets such things. I read a book and have the whole thing in my head as a film set, how people look, their voices, room layouts etc, I really disappear for hours with a good read. What about The Green Mile, The Shining, and the Shawshank redemption?? The book is a story about a man being driven to insanity by addiction, responsibility, isolation and - quite literally - his personal demons. There was something about the Shining that didn't quite come across on the film, not sure what.
