What are we watching on TV?

I watched 'Jackass Forever' last night.

I say "watched", I skipped through probably 35 minutes of it cumulatively and had to look away for half of the rest.

In short, I don't know why I watched 'Jackass Forever' last night.

Not Eurosport anymore!!

Just checked why my Eurosport app won't let me open any programmes and apparently I need to use the Discovery+ app now.

To use that app I need to subscribe £59.99 instead of the £29.99 I was paying Eurosport!!!

I only used it to watch the Superbikes so won't miss it much anyway.

BBC2 'State of the Union.' Miniseries which has 10 minute episodes shown in blocks of three. Brendon Gleeson and Patricia Clark do marital battle with absolutely crackling dialogue. Funny and sad, sharp and fresh.

Going to the cinema a lot this week as we're having building work done so I can't work at home. Have seen 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' (as brilliantly bonkers as everyone said) and 'Top Gun: Maverick' (pretty good also) so far. Have booked for the 'Downton Abbey' movie tomorrow simply because there is nothing else I have not seen on but I've never seen the show and don't know if I can bring myself to go watch it...

Night Sky on Amazon Prime. Starts slowly based on an elderly couple (really well played by Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons) who live in a country house near small town Illinois. Then it takes a turn for the mysterious, they have a secret. Something that lies underground beneath their garden shed, and is literally out of this world. I'm pretty much hooked, (it's leading me into binge watch territory.) :o

Started the new 'Stranger Things' at last (I don't have the attention span to watch it all at once like everyone else I know, it seems!), pretty good so far though the extra long episodes feel a bit like they could have done with being regular length. The writing has gone up a notch though and it seems genuinely quite a bit scarier than previous seasons...
big 'Nightmare On Elm Street' vibe from the first two eps.

Stranger Things literally gave me a nightmare last night. Good stuff!
Still not watched it, every time I have a day off and intend to binge it, the carer changes his day off to the same day as mine! (he's not a fan of stranger things) at the moment next Wednesday looks promising! Can't wait.

The Midwich Cuckoos, new series on Sky. As kid I read all the John Wyndham books I could. The Day of the Triffids, The Kraken Wakes, Trouble with Lichen and more. This book (the clue to the story is in the title) is his particular brand of Scifi, very down to Earth (no pun intended) but frighteningly alien over time.
In his other writings he more or less invented the post apocalyptic scenario so popular today.
This story was filmed back in the 50's, and as I remember it the film was faithful to the book. The only problem being the utterly incomprehensible title of the film: 'The Village of the Damned.' Thus completely missing the cuckoo reference.
So far this one looks good. I'll stick with it.

That may be, in part, because the North American cuckoos are not such enthusiastic brood parasites as the European ones, and the reference might have confused a US audience.

The film is referenced on the cover of The Damned's Machine Gun Etiquette LP, in an Abbey Road style..

With you on the Wyndham books.

Finished Stranger Things 4, good stuff though Eleven's story was the least interesting part of it. Honestly you could have mostly cut her out of this season and I'd have enjoyed it more.

Also finally got around to watching Severance, enjoyed that!

Might start Shining Girls now as I enjoyed the book.
