What are we watching on TV?

With you on the Wyndham books.
I remember long ago the BBC serialised the Day of the Triffids on the radio, and I used to sit listening to it on ye olde Rediffusion Box. I think more frightening than the subsequent TV series because you pictured what was going on in your head !!! Every time I hear a rattling noise even now (could be the car engine, a pen moving around in a drawer on a rolling ship, whatever ... ) ... I still think to myself ... 'Shit, a Triffid is coming !!!'

WOW !! episode two of The Midwich Cuckoos. What comes across is the sheer horror of the situation the women of the village effected are in. You might think this is closer to horror than SciFi which the more I think about it makes sense. It's very well done in this respect and it suddenly occurred to me John Wyndham pre-empted that nasty little fellah with acid for blood who burst out of John Hurt by decades.

Given the state I'm in, I figure a binge watch is called for.

Went to see the movie 'Men' at the cinema tonight. My god, make sure you see that with an audience! The only other time I've seen a reaction like that was for 'The Lighthouse'.

DIY SOS build building a community project in Stoke through all that bad weather we had a few months back (when my garden got nuked.) What I liked is hearing all those Potteries accents. In the 80's I worked for BT for a year after becoming a landlubber and I was based up that way, working all over North Staffordshire.
I always remember meeting my boss for the first time in Fenton and he greeted me with: "Hey are bwut, dust tha nost ?" I nodded as if I understood and wondered how in f***'s name could a Klingon be working for BT in the Potteries.:P

Speaking as someone who has read everything Stephen King has sold in book form, in this country, even when he writes/wrote as Richard Bachman. The books are fantastic, but don't go over to the film very well.
For my money, there has only ever been IT, Misery and Carrie that have compared to the books equally.
I passed the house filmed for IT when in Canada passed it a few times very scarey, my cousins hated going passed the place

I'm watching the entire series of 'Justified' around again, and enjoying it even more than the first time. Full of great characters, and Timothy Olyphant as a sort of bemused Dirty Harry somehow dragged out of the old west into the modern day (based on stories written by Elmore Leonard, so no surprise there.) Best cop show out of the states ever ...

I'm searching around online for a hat like his ... :P

Back in time for Birmingham

Although I was born a Geordie, lived a few years in Stafford & other places, most of the 70's& 80's for me were spent in Coventry.

My nan owned a post office and general store and the neighbours that owned other businesses were Sikhs & Hindus, they welcomed us into their homes & family's & we had some of the very best times ever at their family celibrations... I'm sad to think that I remember nothing of the death of the death of Indira Gandhi or the Golden Temple, I would have only been 13 at the time, but strange to think we were such a close community, but I have no knowledge of these things...

'Sherwood' on BBC1. Gripping drama set in a small Notts former mining village where a series of murders opens some very old wounds from the 80's. Powerful stuff !!
