Nearly finished Minority Report, or rather the book of short stories it is contained in. Not quite at the one Total Recall was based on yet.

Have just finished a biography of Harold Godwinson - returned without incurring any library charges for the first time in many years.

Now have a book on the Battle of Hastings.

I've been working my way through Lee Child's Jack Reacher books - I'm on the last one, then I'll finally get round to reading the Lord of the Rings books that my lovely blokey lent me AGES ago :)

At the momment I am reading (and i am not a shamed of saying this) Fifty Shades of Grey, I just want to know what BDSM is all about. I give the book rating 2 out of 10 i don't get how this book is a best seller at all

I've got two books on the go...
William Godwin, Shelley's father in law, maintained that one should always have several books 'on the go' to aid critical thinking.

You try and find evidence on the wibbly.wobbly.webbly to back that statement up and you get nothin'.

Books 1 : www. 0 (L)

I've read all 3 books, i've made my views quite clear on them, just ask Mrs Jade clothing. If that's porn then my mind must be deeper in the gutter than I realise, wasted £10 buying them books. 2 out of 10 is being very generous.

A Short History Of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson.. i've only just started it, so have only got as far as the creation of our solar system, but already it's amazing how much stuff i thought i knew and i was just plainly wrong..

prior to that, i read Final Theory by Mark Alpert, a throwaway novel based around the notion that einstein discovered a unified field theory but took it to his grave as he thought it could be used to bring about the end of the world.. obv's, in the novel, some bad eggs discover this, and use it to try and bring about the end of the world..

hardly a literary classic, but a nice easy read when one is relaxing in the bath

Yup can back you up on this - as you know I trawled my way through all three as well. Not porn as I know it ;)

I struggled with the first one, briefly toyed with the idea of buying the next 2 but decided it was a total waste of money....Reading Edge by Jeffery Deaver at the moment and wondering when Stephen King will bring out a new one?

Yes duck, 3 books, and to my mind quite boring books at that. Grey-Darker and Freed. There should be a fourth there - Bored.
It's been suggested to me that I should read Wetlands by Charlotte Roche, supposedly a bit more raunchier than 50 Shades. If it isn't then the bloke that mentioned it to me won't be my 'vicar', i'll find someone else ;)

I usually read a book a week, 50 books a year, but just recently due to other stuff my reading has been neglected.

I did read 50 shades of grey and thought it the most appalling piece of rubbish I have read in a long time. I had to check the authors age as I thought she was a 17 year old writing for other teens. Anyone that reads a lot and enjoys literature will agree with me.

Having said that, I am not a literary snob.
I enjoy a good story well told.

My current fave is Rose Tremain. There is not one book of hers that I have not enjoyed. I started with The Road Home but have read others.

Just read a girlie book which really moved me and if you like a good cry then try Jo Jo Moyes ..me before you.

One of the best books I have ever read is set in India. It's called a fine balance by Rohinton Mistry.
A fantastic epic that will stay with you for ever.

Been on a reading frenzy lately and these have all been brilliant, Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, which has gone into my top ten books of all time.
The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson.
Hiroshima by John Hersey and Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E Frankl.
Think I paid a pound odd for the last two off Amazon, but I can't bum Freedom enough, I've put a few Franzen novels on my wish list now.
