What can realistically be done with the old Co-Op?

The Game in Sports Direct Birmingham has the 'Belong' Gaming Arena within it - lots of consoles so people can actually play games. I assume you have to pay to play.

The way I see it's uses as a viable commercial property are somewhat limited in this economic climate. The best thing would be to knock the eyesore down and convert into a park or pave and hold regular specialist markets such a farmer markets, veggie markets, real ale that are not directly in competition with local shops. Creating a focal point to the centre or north of the town is needed to regenerate the centre of town.

The big empty space that would be created by knocking down the old Co-Op building would be in direct competition with the Market Square.

That would explain why the bottom floors effectively ruined and the ceiling gave way, if water is just pouring through the building. God knows what upstairs looks like, probably like a pet cemetery, from all the dead birds.

I noticed one of the support columns near red rum also seems to have exploded .

It's a shame it's been left to ruin, criminal even, maybe that's the landlords intention, make it become worthless then they can't really argue the redevelopment issue.

The state of back of house areas , of the front remaining shops must be a sore sight too, if the walls of the co-op are damp and riddled with mould.

It does mean that someone has taken the property on though. Wonder if the deterioration is doing them a favour regarding the planning .

The sale of the old co-op building has not been completed.

Back on the market.

Back to square one.

Only people with deep pockets and a brave heart need apply.

I'd imagine they seen the state of it and backed out. It's amazing how quickly empty properties deteriorate . All things considered, it would have been better keeping someone in on minimal rent to keep an eye on things, as is, it's going to cost 10's of thousands to bring that place back into use.

Most tenants would struggle to pay the rates, even if they were given it rent free.

I meant 100's to be fair 🤣
Realistically, I fear the back part might be too far gone now unfortunately, and it'd probably cost less to pull it down and start from scratch.

It does always make me smile walking past it, someone has edged shit door into the glass on the ones facing the Guildhall. I'm guessing that door doesn't work 🤣
