What Celebrity would you like to see in Stafford?

Glam

Mad Cat Woman
It would be nice to have a famous band playing at The Swan ... I would pay to see that, but they haven't really got the room so it wouldn't be possible and they would cost too much.
Have you ever seen .44pistol play live? Just as good as half the bands going these days.

Catch em on the way up...

Sting played the Gatehouse
Rod Stewart the Grammar School
Fleetwood Mac played up Highfields
Robert Plant up Beaconside

I have unblocked you now because the threads weren't flowing properly.

I have seen Rod Stewart and he was dreadful live, this was a few years ago so I doubt he has improved now. The best groups I have seen over the last few years were The Killers and The Arctic Monkeys. A few years ago I saw Stevie Wonder and he was fantastic live and I would pay to see him again.

No, but I have seen some of the live bands at The Swan.

I have also seen David Essex btw and I didn't realise how tall he was.

Thanks for the shout out :)

I asked for a bit of time off from .44 Pistol to work on my solo stuff, so at the minute we're on hiatus, but I'll no doubt be letting you all know here when we get up and running again. In the meantime I'm launching my new solo album at the Gatehouse on the 6th June. Do come along. Tickets here. </shameless plug>

I agree, Bob Dylan is a bad singer as well but he has written some fabulous songs.

Bob carefully cultivated the idea he couldn't sing as part of his early "folkie" persona, but you only have to listen to Nashville Skyline to know it's not really true & he can sing rather well when it suits what he wants to do with the song. Granted he was never going to sound like Sinatra, but neither are most of us.

Believe it or not, I was already familiar with both those recordings & I stand by what I said above.

If you listen to the recording of Bob you just posted above, he is in tune throughout & his timing is spot on, i.e. he can sing. What he does do on those earlier recordings & appearances is use a very nasal voice, which admittedly can be hard going, but my point is that's something he chose to do. They sound like that because that's how he wanted to sound. The Bootleg Series, Vol. 4 : Bob Dylan Live 1966 - the famous "Judas" concert, has him doing Mr Tambourine Man & attacking it in a slightly more conventionally melodic fashion:

Fun music fact of the day: Jim McGuinn was the only Byrd allowed to play his own instrument on Mr Tambourine Man, the rest of the band were replaced by session musicians & then sang over the instrumental track.

None of which has anything to do with celebrities you might want to visit Stafford, although if Bob Dylan or Dave Crosby did fancy fitting the Gatehouse into their next tour I'd probably buy a ticket...
