What I Did This Weekend - In Pictures!

I can just see some poor sod getting home from work late, and trying to tell his Missus that he'd seen metre wide bubbles blowing down the road.

"Oh yeah, you've been in the pub all night haven't you !!!" :strange:

Finished the Loop aerial job this morning. Connection boxes soldered up and installed.

Then all connected up prior to the moment of truth .... testing it !!! Battery powered, which is connected to the distribution box, light grey with black label. This injects 12v DC into the feeder while protecting the receiver .. (which is looking for microvolts, not volts.) The receiver is the small grey box on the speaker bottom left, an Airspy HF+ SDR.. About the size of a Swan Vestas matchbox.

And there we go, Chinese broadcast station on HF (short wave) of which there are many.

Lot of tidying up to do now.

The weather here today was quite nice, only 5°C, but no wind - so, I got carried away outside.

The random flower beds from last year look like a lot of the stuff will have overwintered OK, but there's a lot of dead upper growth and seed-heads to dispose of.

So, I scythed it all down with a hedge trimmer - this will have shaken a lot of the seeds out for some new growth.

The shreddings were then scattered back onto the plots - this will have winnowed a few more seeds out and the next wet day will plant them for me - although, there's a few weeds to come out, so I may tread a few of the seeds in myself...

I also 'shaved' a few more borders, too, and added their debris in - this will introduce a few new varieties, hopefully. These plots will provide replacements, should gaps develop elsewhere - I hope.

All the material visible in the first picture, and about the same again, is still there in this last picture.
Well, this was not a successful ploy.

The 'legitimate' flowers have only just started to germinate at all - but the willowherb is well on the go and will overwhelm anything that is so far behind it.

So, I have churned the whole lot in. I probably should have done that a month ago, when the willowherb germinated.

The robins have enjoyed the additional access and are now operating at maximum take-off weight.

For scale, you can see a few humans at the top of this one. We hardly saw any all day, which was great, but these ones were useful to get perspective. They were just about to attempt the scramble down the rocks directly below, which we had to ascend:

Saw some snow :D

Beautiful piccies.

Did you take the @Tek-puppies?

Unfortunately not, was a bit longer than I'd want for them yet, but even then the scrambles would have been hard to get a dog safely up/down. Plus of course they can't go anywhere without vomiting, loved the chase yesterday but both sick on the way there and Mango again coming home!

Mango's limp is certainly better, but still evident. Poor thing is consigned to the lead when out for a month at least :(

Our Piskie dog had problems with travel sickness when we first rescued her. The vet told us to just keep taking for shorter rides to nice walks and she'd get over it. Soon worked and she had no problems travelling hundreds of miles to go on her hols after. She did used to travel with her basket in the middle of the back seat, so she could see straight forwards through the windscreen. ( She travelled spread out in luxury, we had everything else piled on top of us ).

The other weekend we went off on a jaunt to Leicestershire and stayed in a beautiful campsite called Eye Kettleby Lakes.
We couldn’t get in at all last year and this time, booking late, we got the last available pitch.
We just spent the days walking to places from the site, lovely village nearby and a farm shop with a little cafe. The site itself had lovely lakes to walk around.
We had BBQs outside and just had such a lovely relaxed weekend.
The best bit was that we were only 16 miles from our Son’s pub in Leicester so obviously we went to see him on the Sunday afternoon and sat in his beer garden with his lovely locals watching the football.
All in all a top weekend.

This is one of the lakes on the campsite

Oh @Glam bless you for asking.
He's doing ok thank you.
He obviously couldn't do any comedy during lockdown but he managed to keep his pub ticking over with his take away real ale delivering service and his online zoom beer club thing.
He's in Leicester City Centre and very few pubs have beer gardens, he's only got 10 outside tables but he's had people queuing outside for tables at opening time which has been lovely for him.
People seem to like him and his team,
