What I Did This Weekend - In Pictures!

I recently abandoned a 12' extending ladder (far too heavy!) Mainly a home for dust and multiple spiders. This has been replaced by a compact
3.2 metre telescopic version which fits inside the car? I am presuming minimal use if I can help it!

Quick round-trip drive to London village yesterday to see Midnight Oil in their last ever UK concert at the Camden Roundhouse...can't post pics as they are too large, but trust me it was a great gig !!

It was pleasantly summery here this morning, so I did a few small jobs, but, after midday, without any noticeable seismic activity, we seemed to move to somewhere in the vicinity of central Algeria.

I did a job I meant to do when the pressure washer was running the other day, but I forgot, so I set it up again. The mats in the car and the various entrance mats in the house and the shed were blasted. It's a very effective way of cleaning and refreshing them, an impressive amount of silt flowed away. They're all fairly dark, the car mats are virtually black, so, despite holding a lot of water, they soon dried out in the Saharan conditions, hanging on a railing.

Lot of Greene King pubs in Ely, best in my day was the Prince Albert and it still sells Greene King Mild. The 3x3 and the Drayman's Son are new since my day, might give you a better choice of beers.
Been in the Drayman's twice so far and planning to visit the other two mentioned later on today.

The Cutter and Market Tavern both serve a good pint from local breweries too.

Cutter used to be a keg only tourist trap, don't know a Market Tavern, is it new?. Used to be a Minster Tavern which served a reliable pint.
Sorry yes the Minster Tavern, damn auto correct 😂

The Cutter is indeed still a tourist trap but they have Milton Brewery real ales on.

I did (most of) a horrible job today. The hawthorn clump, to the right of the oil tank, has been turning into a small woodland for a few years now, and a plan to reduce it in height and width, for easier control in the future, has been put off for almost too long.

I had done half of it by the time of that photo, mostly with loppers, but a few bits had to be sawn.

Eventually, I felt that it was OK, the ivy at the back was left viable, as the shaded part of nextdoor's cypress hedge won't green up now.

The more observant of the long-term inmates here may notice that they have a good view of @Carole's butt there (and on her birthday, too!).

To the right of the hawthorn section, it is mostly hazel - that was a lot easier and most of that is shredded now and placed as a mulch on a nearby bed that I've cleared up a bit.

This is actually an ancient boundary hedge between two townlands and I like to remind the neighbours that they are outsiders.

Further along, towards the shed, it changes to much larger, but also much 'easier' elder shrubs - a job for the winter.

I still have all the hawthorn to shred, but I may do that in stages.

Enjoying a drop of red.

It's always a good day when you get to see @Carole's butt.
