No, but when i'm taking a girl for a romantic walk in the country and we get to a field with livestock in i can woo her with my electric fence face!

Ive got to agree it's better than more house's. The only thing i would say is from the small plan above it looks like the course goes right up to the motorway. How would this impact on any plans to widen the M6 as personally i think it needs to happen sooner or later.

Is the M6 not the road which just cuts through the bottom-left section of Lucy's pic?!

Ok, apologies to golf fans.

I think its good news its not houses, Its a blumin long way from the golf course at the moment though to the area they are digging up. I guess thats what those buggies are for but not knowing anything about golf it looks like a huge course.

I would imagine a golfer could whack a ball quite a long way and the castle is not a huge distance from where they are digging, the lower grounds are even closer.

Im pleased its not houses, Im pleased it will be green and looked after and quite interested to see how it turns out.

Just been looking at the plans in relations to the maps on Google Earth. Quite easy to see using that where the course is going to go.

ITS HUGE!

That's alot of land to be taken up for a Golf Course, I can't believe there is such demand for a course that big in Stafford! I'm neutral on it. I know we need more houses and we have to put them somewhere, but around the castle is not one of the those places to put them in my opinion.

RE: Motorway widening. Unlikely to happen for many many many years yet. Hard shoulder use will come first. Works well on the M42.

Appology accepted pop.
some ball park figures if anybody is interested, say an average course is 6500 yards long = 3.6 miles not including conecting paths/access or surrounding area's.
a pretty average golfer will hit a ball between 200 and 300 yards on a long hole if needed, footy pitches are anywhere between 100 and 130 yards long so as you can picture it.
you can be assured that all members up at the castle have insurance and in the unfortunate event of one of them hitting a wayward shot they will allways shout a warning......so hopefully no one will get injured.
im sure if i have got anything wrong lucy will correct me. :)

The digging isn't for the course though, just for access...! It is going right up to the motorway, there's going to be large banks inbetween though, I've forgotten the height but can dig out the paperwork if anyone's bothered.

Lucy, your post has just flicked the light on.
So the road is going to link to the motorway so the trucks can trundle off it and onto the Newport Road. Nobodys fault but Im not sure the newport roads surface is up to that.

Just the small amount of work they are doing now has caused more pot holes than a mole convention. Can we use the road? :0) (joking)

If a golfer can strike a ball so it goes 300 yards it will im sure if blown off course or hit wrong end up in the grounds of the castle, shouting is helpful but im not sure it will defer the path of the ball.
I just wondered, not moaning or anthing and im sure it will be a rare occurance, but when there are shows on at the castle the carparks are full and lots of people around.

One golf ball on the head incident and the Newsletter will not let go.

So will I still be able to walk from the left side of the castle down to castle fields? will there be an access path?

Nope, the road is for access from the Newport Road to the site; it's so far down because it's the first free area of land, but then the road will weave it's way to the site.

The course won't be within 300 yards of the grounds, it isn't 300 yards now. I am pretty sure all the access paths will remain, we can't even re-route the one that goes right across 4 holes at the moment, despite there being alternatives. I'm not completely up with the finer details though, because I've dealt with the project from the side of the members of the existing club, to protect them.

no there isnt going to be a link to the motorway, sure lucy will verify that if im wrong.

"Just the small amount of work they are doing now has caused more pot holes than a mole convention. Can we use the road? :0) (joking)"

and i doubt it has anything to do with the minor amount of traffic that has used that bit of road for access to the works that has cuased the damage, have you been out and about round stafford lately?
some of the roads are less than perfect and the contractors that repair them dont seem to bother doing a sterling job if you know what i mean.
ive just put another complaint into clarance about crooked bridge road if anyone else knows what im on about.
huge pot holes there for months....... repaired less than a week ago and even more larger pot holes have appeared starting less than a foot away from the repaired ones.

anyway back on subject, driving ranges in stafford...... no unfortunatly. pot poole up cannock way, aqua lakes just outside newport and if you have lots of money to chuck away there is the three hammers up near covan on the way to wolves.
cant remember how much membership is off the top of my head, lucy might know or you can ring the castle and find out.
