Where is Stafford Radio?

Did you know that Stafford is the only county town in England without its own radio station?! Now i'm not suggesting that the local radio stations don't do a good job, but isn't this wrong? The Stafford Radio website says:

'The essence of the problem was that while there are dozens of volunteers willing to take on a limited role, there was no-one willing to take on the very difficult and demanding task of leading the project.

If you are interested in taking this task on, please let us know. We are looking for a dynamic leader to move this project on.'

Any takers??

BBC

You knows it
We did have Stafford FM for a trial period a couple of years back and it was ggggrrrrreat!!

Can we - the Forum - plan to collectively move this on? I'd be very happy to be a spokesperson as I have always loved radio and this crazy town.

There was something up and running from the University last summer, I remember listening the day the Queen came to Town.

yeah, they started that station during my final years at uni.. i was asked to do a show on it, as apparently i had a "voice for radio" (i'm sure they meant "face for radio" :teef: ), but seeing as the whole shebang was run by soap dodging students it never actually came to anything..

i'd love a show on the radio.. be a right touch!

That would be great - an inexpensive way of getting sounds out to the masses again.

When the student station was still GKRadio and broadcast over the net, I had a show in the final hour on Monday, called "The Headbanger Hour" :)

Hours of fun were had trying to convince the "station manager" (some twit from the Radio Society who had delusions of adequacy) that I wouldn't play anything with four-letter words in it. I managed it until my final show...

We would have to stick to music from unsigned local artists as otherwise we'd be liable to pay royalties. This should not be a problem, however, as Stafford is bursting with talented bands and singer / songwriters. I shall see about getting some exclusive recordings!

Some forumites, some microphones and a copy of the local papers, and do a "What the Papers Say"-style discussion, maybe?

you can play "local paper superhero" spotting.

where you scan the papers headlines for stories about local superhero's.

things like:
"Treetop Man in noisy protest", or "Helicopter Boy in mercy dash"
(these where both in the cronicle about a year ago)

I used to live with a bloke who was a DJ on the short lived Stafford FM. It was something to do with his art history degree, now he run's a haulage firm. Doesnt make much sense really. Anyway all the kit is at the university, we could sneak in and fire it up again. Or just ask.
