I'm currently registered at holmecroft surgery which I've been with for years but the service has declined to a point where I'm looking to swap.don't get me wrong I'm sypethetic and appreciate the kicking the NHS is getting but I can't get an appointment for 2 weeks and definitely cant
choose who I see unless I wait perhaps a month. Can anyone recommend any other local practice's ?

Enjoying a drop of red.
The practices in Stafford seem to have an agreement between themselves where they won't let you move to a different one in the town. I've tried.

Newport Road seems (relatively ) ok

Unless anyone knows differently

But if they have introduced a barr then they are breaking a rule

Hi Simon, empathise with your plight. I would love to make a positive suggestion, but can't! Don't go to Wolverhampton Rd, nearly as bad as the Holmcroft you describe. I go there with clients from work, Learning Disabilities, always seemed OK, but I am not a patient. Wish you luck. Avoid going from fire into frying pan!

Wolverhampton Road is afwul for stupid waiting times. After getting messages from my doctor about making an urgent appointment they were telling me 3-4 weeks. It wasn't until the doctor rang me again that i asked him to book one for me, he said he couldn't, so i put hjim on speakerphone and rang again to book.... 3-4 weeks turned into an hour. And the place was empty.

I'm with these however I have to say I rang wanting an appointment that very day and I received a message on my phone from the doc provisionally booking me in and saying if the time isn't convenient then let them know and they will sort something else, however it was with a nurse practitioner who apparently can prescribe like a dr, I told her what I thought the problem was and she agreed, so after doing her job I toddled off to do my own, I really get the feeling nowadays if it's something you can deal with yourself then do so and don't darken their doorstep. But in their defence ppl are living longer older ppl need doctors there are also ppl who visit on a weekly basis as part of their day out making it difficult for genuine needs to get appointments.

I'm also with Wolverhampton Road, and once you actually get to see someone they are really good. They are however really bad at allowing you to see someone before your illness kills you. Further, they have a nasty habit of downgrading your appt to a lesser qualified person than you wish to see. For example, I've been very poorly for a while now, and the last time I made a Doctors appt i found upon arrival that I was booked in to see a glorified nurse (cant remember her job title but might be nurse practitioner as the above post says), She was very nice but neither use nor ornament in treating my complciated issue.

One good thing though is they have some in house services so my blood test results are back in 2 days as opposed to teh 10 days previously.

Not a surgery I would recommend and on reading their satisfaction scored (<40%) it seems others agree!!

I ended up seriously ill last year, basically as a result of not being able to get an Drs appointment when I knew I was poorly ( but didn't know how bad) and my condition rapidly deteriorated as a result of being not allowed and unable to see a doctor, I hate the way the doctors receptionist assesses whether your worthy enough or not and I do blame them for how ill I became. When I did get to see the doctor I was chastised for not going earlier, you can't win.
Until the surgery can treat their registered patients in a timely and professional manner, Stafford seriously needs a walk in centre. Unless things have changed since last year the nearest one is in low hill in Wolverhampton.

I was with holmcroft but recently swapped to gnosal. I think holmcroft has gone downhill too , hence the swap. I had a bad cough for about 4 months to the point I was being sick with coughing fits . The only help I got from doctor was to sleep with window open and have a bath or move house because maybe my house was causing it. I wasn't even examined

You must live in shaky bridges to fall into both catchment areas. I just got my protractor out

The thing is they all belong to the same club
The CCG
So they will eventually become one the same
Thank the Conservative voters for this

I've always been with Mill Bank Surgery, and on most occasions managed to get a timely appointment when needed. To me the added bonus I can do stuff online with them such as booking advance appointments and ordering repeat prescriptions. As I work out of town this is a huge advantage for me
