I'm with the Wolverhampton Road surgery and although I very rarely go to the doctors (maybe 3 or 4 times in 10 years), whenever I've needed an emergency appointment, I've always managed to get in on the day I phone. One time I was even seen before the surgery opened. I'd been ill overnight and called the receptionist rather than their appointment number to find out whether I'd be better going to A&E or booking a GP appointment and she arranged for the nurse practitioner to see me immediately

It's a mess and needs sorting, I always think that Drs appointments should be made into categories, those with more serious physical ailments and those who are under the weather or have mental health issues, if you've got a physical illness appointments should be given priority and available on the day, anything other should be walk in take a ticket and wait, although most people go to the docs when they really have to or try to avoid it, there are some people who treat it as a day out and go for every tiny symptom they have, but unless they get a grip of the situation Drs are always going to be overworked and stretched to their limits, which will only mean more mistakes are made. I personally think they should pay the nurses and the support teams more it's a highly stressful profession paid at a pittance.
