Who's made something interesting?

I've recently been building my own arcade style 2p pusher (AKA Penny Falls) and it got me to thinking what else have people built from their own designs etc. I initially was going to post this in the geeks and gadgets thread, but then you might have created a very different style of cake, built in wardrobes with colour changing lighting or anything really.

I've NEVER (and I literally mean NEVER) been into any form of DIY, so my acheivement of building a penny pusher has been something I am proud enough of to share. I've just got the final few bits which I hope to finish this week and then I will post pictures / videos for people to see.

Does anyone else have some project pics to share with us all? Maybe we can inspire eachother with our ideas.

The bit in the garage is about 15/16 feet and the bit in the car-port is probably around 25 feet, I think.

There are videos of "Tommy's Railway" on there, as well, but they need updating at some point..

I could give you a list as long as your arm but I'm afraid they're mostly car related. We've designed and built everything from suspension components, to engine oil systems, impact crash structures to windscreen wiper assemblies. Even built the trailers to tow them on and the tools to build them with. I never throw anything away, even at home. It always gets repaired, I have a right bee in my bonnet about our disposable society.

My dad and I built a Chesil Speedster about 8 years ago. Great for a potter about on a sunny summer's day (didn't get used much at all this year as you might imagine.

Nice.

I built a kit-car in the 80s - a Morris Minor based thing called a Kilo Sports - bloody hard work, not so much a kit as a starting point..

Not my one, but very similar.

The beauty of the Chesil was that the supplied components fitted perfectly and the instruction book (which was damn thick) covered every single aspect of assembly in minute detail. Still it took us 8 months to put together and caused many sliced finger.

I drove a neighbours kit car once and I have a feeling it was one of those beauties... was 15 - 18 years ago so can't be 100%, but I know it was morris minor based.

I've never seen another round here. There were very few in total, anyway.

There were a few Bulldogs about, but they were Marina-based.

2i/c at the RAF had a blue one, back in the late 80s.

T'was the Rickerscote side of the town. Could well have been something else - I'm not brilliant with cars as most people who know me would know ;)
It was the same kind of shape and a kit car though!? I can remember my arse being so close to the tarmac that 50 felt like I was doing 100 - absolutely loved it!!

If you have not already found it I suggest Googling a site called Instructables. All manner of off-the-wall projects, some of them amazingly dangerous!

Yeah I stumbled on some penny pusher plans from there, but it was a tiny thing you could almost pick up in one hand and I wanted more of an arcade sized jobbie. As most arcade ones are for several players though you can't fit them through a door and into a house, hence my project to build a single player one.

When I google various things, I quite often come across instructables. Some like you say are literally quite dangerous - but fascinating to read what some people get up to! ;)

I have the first five years of Practical Householder from the 1950s - including how to make your own spin drier, and even your own electric blanket...
