If your sky plu xbox blows up out of warranty then it's £250 from sky or £50 from ebay

You simply transfer the viewing card.

I gave my old HD box to the GF, to replace her sky+ box that was always breaking. Straight swap, worked fine.

Sky of course will try to sell you insurance, but if you live in a cabled area and tell them you'll quit for Virgin they will often replace your box for free.

I purchased a second hand Sky HD box, but not because there was anything wrong with my old box...

For me, I had the old white Sky+ box but by buying a Sky+HD means I get the (free) HD channels for nothing, rather than paying Sky £10 a month for them.

A lot of people have extra Sky boxes in the bedroom so with the HD boxes dropping in price second hand I imagine they are upgrading the bedroom sets now its more affordable.

The only problem with HD is the amount of HDD space it takes up. On several occasions our box has run out of space.

I've never got near the end of our HD, although we did get over it on the old white one while we were away over Easter and there were quite a few films set to record. We have multi room and put the old box upstairs but it's playing up now and I can't pause or rewind live TV - although pause and rewind works fine on recorded programs.

When we moved a couple of years ago they were wanting a good few hundred quid to put up the new dish, I threatened to leave them and they dropped the charge to £60 and threw in a new HD box, moving again in a couple of weeks and hoping to negotiate a similar deal.

I'm sure we moved for free. I supposed there could have been the £60 charge but i'm not sure.

In my experience of Sky they always try to charge, then let you off. Of course I have the great fall back plan of living with my brother, we often swap who's account we pay from to get new customer only deals (and kickbacks from topcashback of course).

when i was with sky they were always tryin to add extra charges onto my bill , i was forever ringing up! my internet was always stupidy slow aswell. then when i moving house i gave them 4 weeks notice and arranged the home move. they agreed to install the new dish etc into new place 2 days after i move in for a £50 installation fee. they never turned up, still charged me the £50. when i rang up again they gave me another date for an installation for 9 weeks time and tried to charge me again...told them to shove it and terminated early!some of the staff on customer service need a good slap aswell :D
