Windows 7 system req

Can someone please tell me if a dell latitude d520 1gb ram 1.83ghz has any chance in running windows 7. Only ask as the GF has just been given one as a work computer and it is stupidly slow and keeps crashing. As she should of had one a few weeks ago and didn't I have a feeling they have found an old laptop and not bothered if it was suitable or not.

Spec to me seems incredibly dated but is this normal in schools?

I checked what they say minimum req are. Just wondering if in any of you teccys think a machine with these specs is up to it in the real world. It won't open word at all and even directory browsing lags terribly. I would of thought it had been formatted and had a new install and running nice and smoothly, but it's acting like a computer that's badly in need of these things doing.

i would of said it would be ok from a fresh install, but i would of said the cpu is a bit weak, happy to take a look at it for you though if you like and have it running nice and smooth

The big consideration for windows 7 is assesing whether the graphics chip is compatible with the windows aero system. If it isn't then it looks quite unpleasing to the eye.

Brother's atom 1.6 compaq netbook machine runs it flawlessly and it only has 1GB RAM too :)
