Any idea what the call assessor role involves?
I feel I should do some kind of volunteer type work for all the medical support I have received over the years - major bike accident, sporting injuries, broken hip, etc, etc.
Call assessor sounds like something I could possibly help with but not sure what it may involve.

As a call assessor, when you receive a 999 call, you are responsible for recording the right information, often under difficult circumstances and offering advice or reassurance to the caller/patient. You enter details on to a computer system which categorises the seriousness of the illness or injury, to ensure that the most critical patients receive the fastest response.

It involves speaking to abusive people in the main . It's a full time job on shifts.

I have never understood why people would feel the need to be abusive towards the ambulance and fire brigade people. Makes no sense at all to be foul-mouthed, threatening or violent to people who are only there to help.
