Went to the Wolseley Arms on Wednesday to meet some friends up from Devon for a few days, haven't eaten there for years. Used to like it back when it was the Roe Buck!
Didn't know before going that Wednesday night is pie night and have to say I thought that the food was very good for a chain pub.
Choose your pie option, then your veg option, then a potato option so you can mix & match quite a few combinations. I went for steak pudding, mash, red cabbage & gravy all of which was delicious, even the generic packet pub gravy was good! Friends choices of steak & merlot pie and the cheese & potato pie also went down well, not so the rib of beef pie which was a 4" pice of rib on the bone with loads of fat and no gravy in a dish under a pie crust So three out of four then. Service was quick and friendly.
Doom Bar on tap was really well kept. Bill for four including drinks, 5 pints, 2 Cokes & a wine was just under £60.00 so pretty good value too.
Defo be going back.
