World Cup 2014

(and me! - Ed)
Steve Bull put the kiss of death on England's chances! On Midlands Today this week, upping their chances, said that England will surprise people! :ohno: After starting to feel a bit more optimistic about our chances, the Tipton Twerp has burst that particular bubble! :lolsmash: Apparently embarrassed himself on 'Pointless', the TV quiz. this week as well! Not content with doing his best to finish Stafford Rangers, he has turned his attention to the national teem! :lorks:. Media obsessed, orally challenged, individual; and yes it does take one to know one! (At last the cerebrally challenged one get's the message:roll:)

From the little I've seen of the England warm up games I think they're doing a pretty good job themselves of managing expectations.
Maybe I'll be a little more enthusiastic once things get underway though.

Shall I put my bunting up today or Saturday?

Does anyone else expect England to go out having drawn against Italy and Uruguay and not scored enough goals in their win against Costa Rica (a bit like Scotland in '74)?

This thread is so depressing.

Can't we have a little bit ....a tiny bit of enthusiasm?

Fantastic goal by Brazil; they must be so proud :D

It was rather touching how much support Marcelo received from the crowd, one thought, despite his rather unfortunate opening goal. For that they can indeed be proud.

It's odd that football teams have not adopted the sort of 'skin tight' shirts you now see on the rugby field - it's not actually an offence to grab someone's shirt in the game of the odd-shaped ball, yet it is in the game with the round one. It's almost like they actually want to retain the ability to infringe the rules of the game - what's with that kind of caper?

Oscar is a quite remarkable player, i wish we had one.

Top marks, however, must go to Gustavo. The current 'beard' epidemic we are experiencing, i personally suspect, can be pinned to Pirlo 2012 - can a 'pencil moustache' pandemic be waiting in the wings?

I'm not quite sure of what to make of what you have said there.

For as many years as i can remember, i have found the cruel and unusual punishment of hugely unrealistic expectations of Glory on the Field deeply, deeply, unfathomable.

That those expectations have been dashed, mercilessly, on the rocks of reality, Tournament upon Tournament, i found to be hugely fathomable.

If you think of World football in 'local' terms, 'We' are a Championship (2nd League in old money) side, playing against the Premiership.

Having said that, obviously i think we are going to go all the way to where we get. Then lose on penalties.

And by Thor's Cave i will enjoy every minute of it. :)

Quite apart from everything else.

Any Englishman that finds himself in Brazil this morning will have to conclude that a 'Full Brazilian' breakfast is the finest breakfast to be had anywhere in the world.

I envy him his breakfast options.

Watched a bit of the Brazil game on the iPlayer this morning when Phil Neville trotted out something along the lines of -
Football is like a religion, its all that matters to the Brazilian people.

So apparently all the protests that have been going on in Brazil for more than a year were cause by people who just couldn't wait for the World Cup to start? :ohno:
