World of minecraft

My son wants me to get him World of Minecraft ..... I have no idea about it apart from it's an online game and it's a one off cost of £20. Does anyone else use it - I'm being told that it's safe but I'm not sure safe and online gaming go together. I may be over protective but my son is 11 years old. Lots of parents have said their kids have it.

At the minute we have a standoff because I've said no - what do others think or does anyone have experience with it.

My grandson plays it quite often when he's at my house, It seems to be a build, dig and explore, collect stuff, type
game with some strange things you have to kill, before they kill you, not a manic game at all and
there is a lot of (I think) utube by a man that's doing it, as you say it seems very popular.
No reason to not let my grandson play as far as I can see , in fact it seems quite mild compared to some games he plays!

Thanks for that - I have had a look in you tube and it seems like computerised building game.

It seems safe enough. Another game my kids play is Roblox - same sort of thing online but I'm not happy that you have to make friends with strangers.

I will get him the minecraft - if it keeps him out of my hair for 1/2 hour it's got to be worth it lol

Regarding Roblox, did you know you can set up a parent account on that? You then attach your kids accounts to it, and can for example disable their ability to use chat beyond prescripted responses, or read normal chat. Renders it about as safe as a single player game.
